Minutes of Meeting
of
Zoning Board of Appeals of Town of Ithaca
May 13 , 1957 .
R . G . and Jewel Gray , Applicants .
The meeting of the Zoning Board of Appeals of the Town
of Ithaca was held on May 13 , 1957 , at 5 : 15 P . M . as adver-
tised in the Ithaca Journal on May 8 and 9 ; 1957 . The
members present were : William Rolston , chairman ; Aldus
Fogelsanger ; Robert Powers ; and Constance E . Cook ; secretary .
Others present were : Ben Boynton , town zoning officer ,
R . C . Gray and Jewel Gray , applicants .
The meeting was called to order by Mr . Rolston to
consider the application of R . C . and Jewel Gray . Pursuant
to paragraph 8 of Section 11 of the Zoning Ordinance , the
applicants requested the special approval of the zoning
board of appeals to extend a non- conforming use by adding
new modern units to . their motel at 657 Elmira Road .
After hearing testimony and after discussion , upon
motion duly made and seconded , the board unanimously adopted
the following resolution .
WHEREAS , the proposed extension will be directly across
from another motel ; there are other commercial use in the
area ; i . e . Cortright Electric , cemetery , McGuires , Brink ' s
farm and produce stand ; there is a need in the community
for additional transit accommodations ; in the summer units
with kitchens are greatly in demand , there are two exits
from driveway and good visibility is good with no hazards
to public safety ; and
WHEREAS , having considered the promotion of health ,
safety , morals and general welfare of the community in
harmony with the purpose of the ordinances having determined
that a need for the use in question exists ; the convenience
and prosperity of the community will be served ; and neigh.
boring persons and property will not be adversely affected ;

RESOLVED , that the special approval be granted and
an order to that effect shall be entered in the office of
the Town Clerk .
There being no further business , the meeting was
adjourned .
