from the Zoning Officer , However , Barb, ara . Holcomb presented
a resolution to the Board concerning the employment of a part -time
assistant to the Zoning Officer .
E F, i The resolution stated that the Town of Ithaca Planning
Board "recommends . that the Town of Ithaca . establish . the . part -
time position of Assistant to the Zoning ` Officer as an interim
solution to help meet the growing demands for service from the
Part - Time Zoning Officer in light of the increasing need for
control of zoning violations and building supervision and in
anticipation of a period of expanded activity when the new Zoning

subdivision on Floral Avenue . The area is presently zoned R - 9 .

will have to be dug . The proposal calls for 12 units on 3 1 / 2
acres of land .
The Planning Board will hold a public hearing on this

Mrs . Holcomb reported that this type of construction is
not permissable under our present zoning ordinance since there
is no ordinance which covers this type of development . Under
the present ordinance , it would be necessary to obtain a
variance for the side lot or density requirements . Peter
France-se will consult with the Town Attorney to . see if it is
feasible to grant a variance on density and side yard require -
ments .
Further discussion was held and it was pointed out that
pe.. rhap.s the old zoning ordinance should be amended to include
this type of development since they are coming into existence
all over. the country .
Mr . Joseph DiGiacomo ( Winthrop Drive ) and Mr . John Tewey
. ( Warwick Place ) reported that area residents are antagonistic
toward the construction of this type of development in this
vicinity . Mr . DiGiacomo stated that on previous occasions
the Planning Board has assured area residents of the northeast
that this area where the proposed construction is to to-ke place
was to remain as -- a buffer zone . Mrs . Holcomb volunteered to
go through the old minutes of the Planning Board to see exactly
what actions had been taken .
