DATE : February 9 , 1993
TO : Lansing Town Board
FROM : Peter E . Larson , Highway Superintendent
RE : Town Road turn - around specifications
This letter is to try to clear up the questions that seem to be coming
up in regards to item 118 on the current road specifications dated 8 / 21 / 91 .
This part of the road specifications deals with dead- end road design . What
the Highway Department would like to see at the end of these roads is a right
hand turn off the road , and the road extended beyond this right turn to allow
the trucks to pull up into the right turn and then back out into the exten3
sion and leave . We have found over the years that this type of turn-around
is the simplest to clean out and is the most effective to speed up the snow
plowing operation . We realize that this turn-around doesn ' t fit into every
• developer ' s plan because of the lay of the land or the property lines and
sometimes it may be necessary to give a variance . But I feel that this
should be done on a case by case basis after looking at each case .
This is what the turn- around should look like and the minimum distance that
should be accepted :
