TO : Lansing Town Board
FROM : Lansing Town Planning Board
SUBJECT : Duties and Methods Relative to the Position of Town
Ordinance Officer
It was moved at the July 9 , 1979 Town Planning Board
meeting , to present the following suggestions for consideration
by the Town Board .
A . It is recommended that the Ordinance Officer make a concerted
effort to use aids in pursuing the written parts of his work , to
allow him more time for the duties unique to his position .
Examples :
• 1 . Use of form letters to inform residents of :
( a ) potential ordinance violations
( b ) follow up on enforcement
( c ) communications between the Ordinance Officer and the
various boards working for the Town
2 . Use of the secretarial services presently provided at the
Town Hall , in lieu of the " do it yourself " approach .
B . It is recommended that the Ordinance Officer provide equal
enforcement effort on all Town ordinances as well as equal
enforcement approaches throughout the Town .
C . It is recommended that a determination of the degree of
responsibility the position of Ordinance Officer should
provide to the Planning Board and other boards be made ,
specifically in regard to the enforcement of Subdivision Rules
and Regulations , aided by Health Department notifications .

D . It is recommended that the Ordinance Officer take more
initiative for identification of possible ordinance viola -
tions and indicate these violations to the relevant boards
or bodies concerned , as well as the offenders .
E . It is recommended that the Ordinance Officer leave the inter -
pretation of the ordinances to those parties so charged with
that responsibility , such as Town Attorney , Town Board ,
Planning Board in case of subdivision , and ultimately the
Town Judge .
F . It would be helpful if , on a routine basis , the Ordinance
• Officer could give a synopsis of the Health Depart .
notifications on new sewers and/or water systems implanted
in the town to the Planning Board .
G . It would seem sensible to combine those files relevant to
both the Planning Board and the Ordinance Officer , rather
than to maintain these files separate and duplicate .
