Winter , Acting Chairman : D . Hardie I . Presentation b the . Lansing Fire Department Re : Proposal o lbuild 2 new buildings Speakers : Max Crosier - Secretary , Board of Fire Commission Floyd . Oplinger - Chiefs Warren Miller ' - Capt . A . Locations 1 . Ludiowville - this station would be eliminated . It has . noroom to expand and it is impractical to keep the ambulance here . k 2 . Lansingvillee this station would _ be moved to 7 - 8 acres on Ridfe Rd . , giving a larger area better fire protection , and with room for future expansion ; 3 . South Lansing - 15 - 18 acres across from the Carnival grounds was donated by Watkins Salt . ( a ) road visibility excellent ( b ) septic - fill system - cost approx . $ 80 , 000 . ( c ) old station had antiquated water and sewage facilities . 40 At present there are 4 buildings ( 3 stations , 1 storage ) which will be replaced with 2 buildings . 5 . From these new locations , everyone in the town will be • within at least a 5 minute response time . Fire insurance rates for some areas should decrease becauseof faster service. . • B . Ambulance fi 1. . Present facilities cannot house a. . standard size ambulance . Costly modifications have always been made so they will fit in the stations . 2 . A new , larger ambulance is needed . ; By law it must accomodate 2 . patients . 3 . As trade - in value is low , the old ambulance would be retained as a back-up unit and would allow Lansing to maintain their transport service . ( Lansing is the only area to have a free transport service for its residents ) . . . However , at present , there is no space for anew modular ambulance , let alone space for 2 such vehicles . 1+ 0 Advantages of modular ambulance : ( a. ) repair time reduced ( b ) lower cost to replace ( c ) has room for heart equipment 5 , Ambulance personnel must have 200 hours of class room • training besides their fire - fighting hours . C . Specifications for new South Lansing station 1 , 2 double doors 2 . .room for up to 12 trucks - have 8 now , 9 w/ new ambulance 3 . open space - 88 ! x 881 approx . w South Lansing station - continued 4 . repair area ( ' not in present facilities ® 5 . ' wash bay It It 6 . & radio room - elevated ( not in present facilities ) 7 . will hold a ladder truck when and if needed in future 8 . office space - files now kept in individual homes 9 . stock room 10 . utility room - 2 zone hot water system 11 : small meeting room - 40- 50 people ( a ) . company meetings ( b ) training sessions 12 . bunk rooms - male and female live - in firefighters . . ( a ) firefighters could sleep thereon duty nights ( b ) students • 13 . lavatories i 14 . recreation room with kitchenette 15 . reading room D . Specifications for new Lansingville sataliite station 1 . apparatus bay with double doors 2 . room ' for , 3 trucks - have 2 at present 3 . office - will hold radio equipment '?, 4 . lavatory 5 . utility room . 6 . storage room 7 . kitchen 8 . meeting room E . Finances - Assistant Chief Don Campbell 1 . . at this time there appears to be no . need for a . tax increase 2 . present tax rate of $ 1 . 25 per thousand , or 2% 3 . 30 year bond @ 6% interest 4 . tax comparison shows Lansing has the third lowest rate , however , it gets no additional monies from the town or for ambulance service , making it the only self-sufficent . company 5 . if the town had salaried firefighters , it couldn ' t afford. to have fire service - it is a completely volunteer service F . . Vote on October 18 , 1977 = stations can be voted on 4 - individually G . Thanks on behalf of the Planning Eb:ard . were extended to the men of the fire company . . • H , Having heard the proposal and reasons , 41t was moved by F . Edmondson , seconded by B . Bement , to issue a statement of support in the form of a. newsrelease , to be written by D . Hardie and B . Bement with the approval of the board . Carried unanimously . ;! II . NYSEG Siting Committee A . AA- letter was received from Mr . Paul Komar of NYSEG listing the names and addresses of siting board members . B . A letter to the siting board members , drafted by , Mrs . Miller , was read and amended . C . The secretary was asked to send a copyto - each member as well as political representatives . 111 - 2 - III . SEQR - . F . Edmondson A . The town has the option of writing , their own resolution or letting the state do it . for them . B . MOTION : It was moved to request the Town . Board to instruct their attorney to prepare a letter advising the Town of its liability in the event no move is made on the part of the Town to adopt a resolution under the present legislation . Motion made by B . Bement , seconded by S . Weeks , ' carried by a unanimous vote . IV , Treasurers report - L . Winter The amount of last years Planning Board budget was determined and will be submitted with the appropriate increase ( see 12 Sept . 1977 ) . II� • Adjourned : . 10 : 20 P .
