' t March 23 , 1976 ,: F; To : Town of Lansing Town Board kAjw From : Town of Lansing Planning Board Monday night , March 22 , 1976 , Norm Stanton , as your emmisary , 5a ., requested input regarding some language changes in the "Junk Yard wo we Ordinance : and as a result , the Planning Board wishes to address some comments to the issue . v . First , and probably primarily , the Planning Board feels that the "Junk Yard Ordinance " is philosophically oriented towards removing or toning down the unsightliness of abandoned , damaged , • soi and useless products of our society . At the same time , no one wishes to impose hardship on the entrepreneur or the businessman , whom we hope would take the responsibility of consideration for the sensibilities of their fellow townspeople . % With this in mind , we would like to encourage the Town Board : ` i to consider less exceptions to the Ordinance . There is , for in - c stance , a garage that has 20 or so junk cars in back which are A. clearly there for the sole purpose of providing parts for sale . ryti Another garage is engaged in the business of towing cars from the scene of wrecks , and of course they have to be stored pending insurance investigation . Legally , both of these businesses are U. within their rights to display the units , but wouldn ' t the town be a more pleasant place if in these two cases a screen of pine trees or some other suitable shield were to bluntthe starkness x: °V of the damaged or cannibolized vehicles . Please don ' t feel that we on the Planning Board wish to cause trouble , and please don ' t feel that these two businesses were singled out for any other reason than that they were the only examples everyone on the Planning Board was familiar with . So much , however , can be accomplished with relatively little effort if we are interested in abiding by the spirit of the Ord - inance rather than the legal word only . No one is so naive as to think that the written law is not needed , but when changes are made and especially when changes in exceptions are contem- plated , we would request that you consider the spirit in which • the Ordinance was conceived and let that be your guide wherever possible . 14 * ,:-, mi Lansing Planning Board • Post Office Box No. 60 4 South Lansing, New York :_ s x z„r+ sq7 ' rAof c ( 2 ) 3_ im b F Pff i' y -:-- Os ri We are sending this to you at home as we very much wish to =', ; respond as you requested , but we do not feel that it is necessary n or desireable to place this on public record #% ' Sincerely Yours , Town of Lansing Planning Board Viola Miller , Chairman , IDavid Hardie , Vice Chairman ' , Bill Bement , Secretary Sam Baughman , Treasurer Lola Winter Fred Edmondson Lou Roscoe E. _, i: , ; ,10 •
