Alex Cima , H . B . Ruzicka ABSENT : Messrs . Paul Barron , Frederick Edmondson , James Wood The meeting was called to order by the Chairman at 7 : 40 p . m . Showacre Announced that this meeting had been called to discuss two matters : (1 ) Although the Town Board appointed the Planning Board as the Zoning Commission , that Commission should have the opportunity either to elect among itself new officers for the Zoning Commission , or to retain the same officers as now exist on the Planning Board . MOTION by Mr . Ruzicka , seconded by Mr . Cima , and carried , that the officers of the Planning Board be also the officers of the Zoning Commission . • ( 2 ) The Chairman does not feel that he can spare the time to do all of the work that is required of the Zoning Commission in pre - paring a zoning ordinance for the Town Board . Ruzicka Stated that it would be well to be guided by someone who had been through this process previously . Showacre Stated that the Planning Board as Zoning Commission can administer the program , but without funds it is impossible to hire the work done . Furthermore , the people themselves should be doing the work . A great many people have telephoned to volunteer , and it is up to this Board to channel their energies into productive work . The organization through which these volunteers should be working is the Planning Council . This is a structured organiza - tion through which these people are more than welcome to work . Miller Has had a number of people volunteer to help . She suggested that they come to the Council meeting this evening , to see what they might be interested in working at , on the Council . The men who have worked on the Council are willing to go ahead and continue the studies on the level necessary . No zoning can be worked on until some of the projects are finished and some kind of plan is ready to be presented to the public . With the thought in mind that the Council members are best suited • to work on this , Mrs . Miller proposed the following resolution to this effect : Minutes , LANSING PLANNING BOARD , October 28 , 1968 ; Town Hall , Special Meeting , Page 2 • WHEREAS the Lansing Town Board appointed the Lansing Planning Board to be the Lansing Zoning Commission , with instructions to proceed immediately to draft a zoning ordinance for the Town of Lansing , NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED , that the Zoning Commission hereby requests the assistance in this effort of the Lansing Planning Council ; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED , that the members of the Planning Council working as teams with the assistance of at :t:'sast one member of the Zoning Commission on each team , conduct public information meetings throughout Lansing for the purpose of drafting a preliminary zoning ordinance for Lansing . Ruzicka Suggested that the meetings be divided by election districts . Miller Agreed with this . Stated that by this neighborhood meeting method , the thinking of the people can be brought back to the Planning Board and used in planning the zoning . Miller MOTION by Mrs . Miller , seconded by Mr . Cima , and carried , that this resolution be adopted . • The meeting was adjourned at 8 : 10 p .m . 411
