The Warren Road Sewer District remains a priority
for the Lansing Town Board as we continue to work
with the Town Engineer, Legal Counsel and Financial
Advisor to complete the application process for low
interest rate funding with USDA Rural Development.
The Town has also received the Memorandum of
Understanding from the Village of Lansing which
allows for the use of the existing infrastructure
within the Village for the transport of Town
generated sewage. We are also continuing
negotiations with the Village of Cayuga Heights to
develop an Intermunicipal Agreement to cover the
sewage treatment and disposal needs utilizing the
Cayuga Heights Wastewater Treatment Plant. We
anticipate construction to begin by Fall 2009.
The Zoning Ordinance Review Committee is nearing
the completion of their review of the existing Town
Ordinance, and anticipates providing
recommendations for amendments to the Town
Board for consideration within the next few weeks.
The Town Board has discussed the possible creation
of a Town Center along the Route 34 & 34B corridor.
The idea of creating a Town Center is not a new one;
in fact this is one of many ideas that came out of the
2010 Committee work in the early 1990’s. With

Recent correspondence from the US Census
Bureau indicates that Census employees will be
visiting every housing unit in the Town of
Lansing between April and July 2009 as part of
the 2010 Decennial Census. Census employees
will wear official identification and carry hand-
held computers in the process of gathering
addresses and physical locations of places where
people live or stay.

Our Criminal case load had a significant decrease in 2008 at 252 cases which was down from 400 last
year (2006 cases were 345). These cases are the felonies, misdemeanors and violations and very often
involve much additional work with probation, the DA's office, State agencies and jail time. Next month
we hope to report a breakdown of which cases are causing the decrease.
Our total caseload for Vehicle and Traffic tickets was up at 1268 vs. the total last year at 1,078. We
have seen these numbers go up and down over the years and it is solely related to personnel/patrol
changes in the Sheriff Department and the State Police. As an example several Officers that routinely
patrolled Lansing were serving a stint in Iraq and Afghanistan, now have returned plus a new group of
patrol people have been added.
The combined totals of Small Claims trials and Civil eviction proceedings down to 40 from 52 last year
while the combined totals of parking tickets and dog ordinance violations had a drop at 99 down from
127 last year.
Looking at the total fines and fees collected for the year, the total is $147,139 which is up from last
year's total of $125,879. This is directly tied to the increase in Vehicle and Traffic tickets as discussed
above.
If anyone has any questions or concerns on Court issues feel free to call us at 533-4776.
