2008 has been a year filled with new challenges for me,
but with the support of the Town Board and
experienced staff I feel good about the things we have
accomplished together. As I prepare to complete my
first year as Town Supervisor I thought it would be
good to share a few highlights of our
accomplishments.
• The long awaited construction of the waterline
to the Lansing Station/Algerine Road, as well as
the extension of water to the Drake Road
neighborhood has provided many residents
with a potable water supply.
• We anticipate finalizing the details and breaking
ground in 2009 on the Warren Road Sewer
District which will provide for expansion of the
Warren Road Business Park, and updating of
several aging septic systems in the adjacent
neighborhood.
• The hiring of Jeff Overstrom as the Engineering
and Planning Coordinator and Department Head
for the Zoning, Planning & Code Enforcement
Office has provided the Town with the ability to
oversee and manage many things that were
previously handled by outside resources. Plans
are underway for Jeff to attend the NYS Code
Enforcement Training in 2009 which will further
benefit the Town.
• The establishment of the Zoning Ordinance
Review Committee comprised of community
member volunteers from the various zoned

areas within the Town who are assisting in
the review and update process of the
Town’s Zoning Ordinance will certainly
prove to be a beneficial asset to the Town
Board, Planning Board and Zoning Board of
Appeals as we plan for the future zoning
needs of the Town.
• Many hours of work by Town Staff and
Town Board Members went into the 2009
Budget process, and I am pleased that we
were able to reduce the tax rate per
thousand of assessment by 2%.
In closing I feel very good about what has been
accomplished in 2008, and look forward to the
positive things that will happen in the year ahead
as I work to fulfill my duties as your Town
Supervisor. Please feel free to contact me at 533-

or concerns you may have. Or you may e-mail me

Even though winter seems to have come early to our area, our Parks were ready. The clean up and
winterization process has been completed and now ready for real winter. Myers Park in particular, is
used throughout the entire year by walkers and others that just enjoy the off season scenery. Please
keep in mind that even though it is off season, dog owners still need to clean up after your pets. For
people riding through or walking at Salt Point, please be aware that hunting is allowed at Salt Point
and the dates for duck season are October 25 – December 7 and December 27 – January 11.
Several new trees were planted in all of our parks late this fall and will be great looking additions this
coming Spring.
Participation in our early winter programs has been good with over 200 students taking part in
Bowling, Gymnastics, Karate and our “In-House” Basketball program. These programs are about half
way through their schedules now. Within several weeks new programs will start including Travel
Basketball, Skating, Skiing, Karate, Gymnastics Session II and Wrestling. In February we will offer
Rock Climbing at Cornell University and Basketball for 2nd & 3rd graders. We also have ongoing
programs for adults that include, Step Aerobics & Strength Class, Men’s Basketball, Women’s
Basketball, COED Volleyball, Women’s Volleyball and Boot Camp Fitness programs. Please check the
respective registration forms for all of the details or call us at the Parks & Recreation office 533-
7388 or check out our web page at www.lansingrec.com.
Summer Concert suggestions…? Soon it will be time to book our summer concert schedule and if
you have any special requests, or know of some great talent, that we have not heard yet, please let
us know and those groups might just make this year’s lineup!

The Code Enforcement and Planning Department has gone through some changes in the past few
months. Changes in policies, procedures and staff have challenged the Department to refocus
and reorganize. Our goal is to continue to provide residents assistance and guidance with
permits, zoning and code enforcement issues in a professional and courteous manner.
With the winter heating season upon us, and the uncertainty of fuel costs, many residents are
considering alternative means of heating their homes. Wood, coal, and pellet stoves are a popular
choice. The Code Enforcement Office would like to remind anyone considering installing one of
these heating devices that a permit must be obtained and the installation inspected by the Town
Building Inspector. Contact our office for specific requirements and information.

The 2009 Town and County tax bills will be mailed out the last week in December. These
taxes are due the month of January without penalty. A one percent (1%) penalty will be charged for
the month of February and a two percent (2%) penalty will be added for the month of March.
If you choose to use the installment option, you will pay a service charge to Tompkins
County of 2.5%. If you can pay the total amount due in February or March, it would be less expensive
than paying the service charge to the County.
If you do not receive your bill by the end of the first week in January, please call our office at
533-4142 and we can give you a copy.
If you use the direct pay method for your payment be sure it is receivedreceivedreceivedreceived by our office before
