PRESNTATION_OF TOWN — OFFICERS REPORTS:

1971 ANNUAL REPORT OF TOWN JUSTICE FREDERICK J. SPRY
Total number of cases handled in 1971 823
Total fines and money collected $8,354.50
1971 Case Breakdown
Vehicle and Traffic 694 Conservation 3
Criminal 117 Navigation 1
Civil 8
Comments: 1971 case load is down slightly from 1970 which figure was
850 cases and consequently the monies collected is also down, 1970
showed a figure of $9,563.54. The difference in cases does not account
for the much greater difference in fines collected. I believe this is
due mostly from the raising of the speed limit to 55 miles per hr.
from 50 (as of last year). The number of speeding charges is cut
almost in half and the number of equipment violations has almost doubled,
and the policy of not fining an insufficient light charge if proper
proof is filed with the court that said lights were fixed by the next
sundown. There were many of these cases and they show up in the fines
collected figure also. Res -oectively submitted, F.J. Spry.
