The Lansing Town Board met in regular session at the South Lansing Town Hall
on February 16, 1968 at 8 P.M. with Supervisor Dates presiding.

• MOTION by Mr. Howell and seconded by Mr. Kidney that the minutes of the
December and January meetings as submitted by the Town Clerk be approved.

Milton Case, Representative for the Town of Lansing Highway Association inquired
of the Board if they had made any decisions in regard to the proposed contract draft
presented to them by their Association. Supervisor Dates stated that data from
villages and towns relating' to Highway Departments was now being compiled by the
Personnel. Department at the Court House and after the survey results were obtained
the Board could bargain with more knowledge of facts. Highway Supt. Sharpsteen
asked if this survey implied that there would be a uniform wage scale for all
Highway employees. He also stated that there was a difference in roads and the
men who built them. Supr..Dates replied that all of these facts had always been
considered by the Board. and would continue to be taken in consideration in the
bargaining. Negotiations should be completed in March.
RESOLUTION; AUTHORIZATION TO EXECUTE CONTRACT _ COUNTY HIGHWAY SUPERINTENDENT.
RESOLVED ON MOTION made by Mr. Kidney and seconded by Mr. Ferris.
WHEREAS, the highway law requires that the County Highway Superintendent enter
into contract with the Town of Lansing relative to remuneration to be received by
the Town for the removal of snow and. ice and other work on'County Roads, now
therefore be it
RESOLVED that the Town Highway•Superintendent be and he hereby is authorized. and
directed to execute said contract on behalf of the Town, the rates to be received
being in accordance with those established and approved by the State of New York.

Letter received and read from Mrs. Clarence4who resides on the Salmon Creek
Road. Mrs. Krom requested the Board to enforce the Ordinance relative to the
junk yard on the property of Wilbur Brotherton, Town Atty. Williamson and Justice
Ferris to proceed with the necessary steps in terminating this problem.
RESOLUTION offered by Justice Spry and seconded by Councilman Howell:
RESOLUTION APPROVING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A LIGHTING DISTRICT KN047N AS
L.ANSING- HIGHGATE LIGHTING DISTRICT. Said Resolution attached hereto and
made a part thereof.

Resolution was thereupon declared duly adopted.
Letter received and read from M.P. Catherwood in connection with his Subdivision
south of Route 13 and the roads to serve said area. After discussion by the .board,
the .following resolution. was made.
RESOLUTION1 offered by Mr. Howell.: and seconded by .Mr. Kidney:
RESOLVED that it is the Town Board Policy to accept roads in the Town when
same have been built in accordance with the Town Highway Superintendent specifications
and when the Town Superintendent approves construction; it is also the policy of the
town to oil in front of homes located on gravel roads, and be it further
RESOLVED that the Clerk send a copy of this resolution to Mr. M.P. Catherwood.

RESOLUTION REGARDING LANSING RECREATION COMMISSION APPOINTMENTS;
MOTION made by Mr. Ferris and seconded by Mr. Kidney to accept the Lansing
Recreation Commission recommendations for the following appointments to the Commission
for three year terms expiring December 31, 1970.
Frederick R. Hodgson, 25 Asbury Dr., Ithaca, N.Y. to succeed himself.
John R. West, 132 Cherry Rd., Ithaca, N.Y. to replace John C. Siemens.
Unanimously carried.
The Town Board. discussed the appointments to be made on the two vacancies
now appearing on the Planning Board. It was the decision of the Board to choose
the two new members by written ballot from the list of the eight persons who had
volunteered to fill the two vacancies. The candidates were: Clarence Benson,
Wilbur Boles, James Preston, Bruce Steinhardt; James Wood, Paul Barron, Bernard
Ruzicka and Helen Dixon. The count of the written ballot resulted in the names
of James Wood and Paul Barron receiving the most votes and the .following resolution
was made.
MOTION offered by Mr. Ferris that James Wood be appointed to the Planning
Board for a seven year term and Paul Barron he appointed to the Planning Board
for a. five year term.
Seconded by Mr. Kidney.

Highway Supt. Sharpsteen spoke of the problems at the town dump. The dumping
of dead animals is restricted, however, persons continue this practice. A sign is
to be posted at the dump stating penalty of such violation..
The Town Board authorized.Highway Supt. Sharpsteen to obtain bids on a mowing
machine to help in the maintenance of the several cemeteries in the town which are
no longer self - supporting and have become a town responsibility.
Supervisor.presented him monthly report, and explained. same in detail. Filed

0DIT RESOLUTION by Mr. Spry and seconded by Mr. Ferris:
RESOLVED that General Fund bills #18 thru 40 totalling $5,255.24 and
Highway Fund bills #21 thru #58 totalling $37,347.88 be and the same are hereby
approved for payment.

Supervisor Dates stated. that Engineer T.G. Miller and Highway Supt. Sharpsteen
would he in Syracuse on Friday, February 23rd. to inspect some buildings in
connection with our proposed Highway Garage. Board members were urged to go if possible.

March 8, 1968
The Lansing Tom Board met in Special Session on March 8, 1968 at 8 P.M.
with Supervisor Dates presiding to discuss Highway matters and any other items
of business that may come before said Board. All members were notified by mail.
