Justice Spry commented on the proposed district courts now under consider -
ation at the Constitutional Convention. He stated, "the office ofiJustice of
the Peace serves the people far better than any District Court system, manned
by expensive personnel, could ever hope to. This is proven by present District
Court plans now in operation. Like many high cost plans, the costs are hidden
by the statements that the state would pay the bill _ but who is the state but
we taxpe:jers. To lose our personal Justice System is even the highest cost
of this effort to strip one of the last forte of local government Ileft to the
taxpayer under the guise of professional justice*, with no guarantee that we
would get our $30,000 a year's worth out of 'our professional lawyers."
MOTION made by Mr. Spry: That the Town bf LansinK Town Board 'go on record
in favor of maintaining the Justice Court System and maintaining the office of
Justice of the Peace in its present form to assure the court closest to the
people be kept in the hands of the local government, and he it further
