The Lansing Town Board met in regular session at the Lansing Town Hall on
March 9, "1965 at 8 P.M. with Supervisor Dates presiding.

The Supervisor opened the meeting with the Roll Call and having the clerk
read the minutes of the February 9th and 16th meetings.
Approved as read.
The Supervisor introduced Engineer Thomas G. Miller, and asked for his
report on the investigation of Bolton Point on Cayuga Lake as a source of
water supply for Lansing Water Dist. No. 1. Mr. Miller explained his report
in detail and recommended that the Town proceed to drill a test well on Bolton
Point and if it provides satisfactory results that Bolton Point be the permanent
and main source of water supply for Lansing Water Dist. #1.
MOTION by Mr. Spry and seconded by Mr. Kidney, that Mr. Miller's report
be accepted for study.
Carried all present voted Aye.
The Supervisor requested that each Town Board Member carefully examine
Mr. Miller's report and be prepared for further discussion on the proposed
water district at the adjourned meeting scheduled for Wed., March 17th,
Mr. Dates informed the Board that he had received a letter from Mr.
Talandis dated March 5th, stating that the'Lansing Water Works Corp. were
unable at this time to supply the information that Mr. Miller had requested in
his letter of January 20th, Mr. Talandis expects they will be in a position
shortly and will get in touch with the town at that time.
Mr. Butler reported to the Board that he would furnish whatever information
possible at the meeting of March 17th.
MOTION by Mr. Howell and seconded by Mr. Kidney, to enter into a contract
with Mr. Miller at a price of $150.00 for survey and engineering inventory,costs
in order that the town will be in a position to negotiate with the Lansing
School Dist, water system and Albany in establishing a water dist. in dyers.
CARRIED all present voted Aye.
Mr. Howell commented briefly on the progress of the County Sanitary Sewer
Dist. Reported that the recommendations of O'Brien & Gere had been accepted and
approved.
Saturday, March 27th, was the date scheduled for the Town Road Tour with
Highway Superintendent Sharpsteen and the Town Board.
AUDIT RESOLUTION by Mr. Spry and seconded by Mr. Ferris:
RESOLVED, that general fund bills #33 through #47 totalling $ 6 ,
,013.42
and Highway bills #48 through 83 totalling $10,720.37 be and the same are
hereby approved for payment.
Carried all present voted aye.
The Supervisor presented his monthly report and explained same in
detail. Filed with Town Clerk.
RESOLUTION by Mr. Kidney and seconded by Mr. Ferris:
WHEREAS, polluted water jeopardizes health, lowers property value, restricts
community development, hampers industrial expansion, destroys commercial fishing,
degrades recreational area, and impoverishes all it touches, and
WHEREAS, all areas in the State need clean water to protect the public
health, to enhance the beauty of nature, to encourage proper development, to
improve recreational areas for boating, bathing and fishing, to expand the
local economy, and to make the State a finer place to live, work and play, and
WHEREAS, population growth, urbanization, technology, recreation demands,
and rising living standards are greatly increasing our demand for water, while
simultaneously these same factors are swelling population, and
WHEREAS, many of the people in the State are now adversely affected by
polluted water, and our local governments are faced with mounting costs in
education and other areas so that they find it difficult to finance needed
sewerage facilities, and . I -
WHEREAS, Governor Rockefeller has proposed a comprehensive six =year
"PURE WATERS PROGRAM" which provided.: grants to municipalities for planning,
for operation and maintenance, and for construction of local sewerage
facilities; for incentives to industry to build necessary industrial pollution
control facilities; and for intensified enforcement of the anti - pollution
laws, in order to eliminate pollution in the State's lakes, streams, rivers,
and underground waters; and
WHEREAS, the "PURE WATERS PROGRAM" proposes a billion dollar bond issue
to help finance a 60% construction grant to municipalities for the construction
of intercepting sewers and sewage treatment works
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT_the Town Board of the Town of Lansing
hereby affirms its support of the proposed "PURE WATERS PROGRAM" and State
bond issue.so that the burden and blight of water pollution will be lifted
and clean water-will be available to all the people of the State.
