The Lansing Town Board met at a Special Meeting called to discuss
Sewer and Highway problems. Said meeting called by the Town Board, held
on two days notice in writing to members of the.Board.'

Visitors: O'Brien & Gere engineers James McWain & Dennis Moran,
Atty. Harry Hamilton, Atty. Richard Thaler, Arthur Shull,
Gerald Talandis.
The Supervisor presented letters to the Board regarding sewage disposal
in the south part of Lansing. The Town is presently in the process of
participating in a joint comprehensive sewer study for the northeast section
of Tompkins County. Until this study is completed and the town engineer
has given his final recommendations to the town regarding the boundaries
of the district, etc., the Town Board cannot proceed with the formation of
a district. However, in order to take care of the immediate needs of namely,
Howard Johnson, Triphammer Development Inc., Otto B. Schoenfeld and a
portibn of lands owned by Butler to the west of the Lansing Apartments,
the Town is trying to provide a solution on a temporary basis pending
completion. of the current study of the sewer needs of the several
municipalities.
The Supervisor introduced Engineer James McWain and after considerable
discussion the following resolution was made.
RESOLUTION by Mr. Spry and seconded by Mr. Kidney:
WHEREAS, the Town Board has received petitions for the formation of
'sewer districts in the southern part of the Town of Lansing, consisting
generally of the area presently owned by Triphammer Development Corporation,
Otto Schoenfeld; and
WHEREAS, other persons have indicated an interest in being included
in said sewer district if same is formed, namely; area presently occupied
by Howard Johnson Motel and Restaurant and premises owned by Butler to the
west of the Lansing Apartments; and
WHEREAS, the firm of O'Brien and Gere, Syracuse, New York, has submitted
a proposal for engineering services in connection with the formation of
said proposed sewer district,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, pursuant to Section 209-b of the Town
Law that the town appropriate the sum of $850.00 to pay for the cost of
performing the necessary engineering services for the formation of the
proposed sewer district; and be it further
°- RESOLVED,'that the said cost shall be charged to the sewer district
when formed; and be it further
RESOLVED, that the Town Board retains the firm of O'Brien & Gere to
perform said engineering.services at the above specified amount; and be it
further
RESOLVED, that the Supervisor of the town be and he hereby is authorized
and directed to execute a contract with the said O'Brien & Gere on behalf of
the town; and be it further
RESOLVED that this resolution is subject to a permissive referendum.

Clerk directed to immediately post notice on Town sign board that
said resolution was duly adopted, also advertise in the Ithaca Journal.
MOTION made by Mr. Kidney and seconded by Mr. Spry to hold an
informal public meeting at the Howard Johnson's Conference Room on
Thursday, August 2 7th at 8 P.M. for interested persons residing in
this area concerning said sewage study.
Carried all present voted Aye.
Highway Superintendent Sharpsteen discussed the need-for
purchasing a wing for the new grader.
MOTION made by Mr. Howell and seconded by Mr. Kidney that the
Highway Superintendent be authorized to advertise for bids for snow
plow wing to fit Austin Western Grader. Bids to be publicly opened at
September 8th regular town board meeting.
