HomeMy WebLinkAbout1962-06-18T June 18, 1962. The Lansing Town Board met in regular session at South Lansing Town all 8:00 P. M. with Supervisor Dates presideing . Harris B. Dates Floyd Ferris Fred Spry Charles Howell James Kidney Donald Sharpsteen Kenneth Tarbell Joseph Mc Fill Roll Call Supervisor Pres. Justice Pres. Justice Pres. Councilman Pres. Councilman Pres. Hy. Supt. Pres. Assessor Chr. Pres, Clerk Pres, a s In attendance were Atty. Robert Williamson and stenographer Lillian M. Keoun also visitors in the approximate number of 200 the main interest of visitors being the resolution to be placed before the Board to appoint a planning Board also some wished clarification of road problems due to relocation of Route 13 . The regular June meeting was opened by the Supervisor thanking the people for their attendance stateing that if more people attended Board meetings there would be a better understanding of the operations of the Town Board . In the opeping of the meeting the Supervisor with the approval of the Board , wished to dispense with the reading of the minutes of the May meeting he also introduced the members of the Town Board to the Visitors. As the majority of the visitors were in; attendance to discuss the resolution Appointment of a Planning Board , Town of Lansing the resolution to placed before the Board at this meeting to be acted upon . The visiotors asked for the reading of the resolution . The Supervisor read this resolution and opened the meetingfor a one hour discussion, limiting each person wishing to speak to 4 or 5 minutes. A transcript of this discussion to be taken by the stenographer Lillian M. Mr. Gartlein from Graham road.placed an objection before the,Board relative to the colseing of Graham road at the site of the relocation of rt. 13 as he was unaware,of any change from the first plan given the Board he was of the opinion that some way should be to get onto rt 13 from Graham road ,'also he wanted to know what was to be done to Graham road as to rebuilding it. His interest was in some say to be able to use Graham road to get to Triphammer. road Mrs Jo. Cole and James Shoacre also expressed concern in this matter also believeing that rebuilding Graham road should be put off until after Rt 13 was completed due to the increased traffic due to construction. The 9uperviaor explained the first plan the State submitted to the Board and was approved by the Board then about a year later the 'Tate Dept. -of Public Works- requested the Board rescind the first proposal and submitted another , the one that was being used now. He also stated that when it could be learned just what the Dept. had in mind he would advise them and meet with them . As to the rebuilding the Graham road the Highway Supt. stated that Swartout and Ferris haveing the fleet of school busses housed on Graham road it was not safe being narrow and also would break up as the busses had to come out on triphammer road to the West. The supervisor read letter from Ethel Selden regarding the excellent work done by the Highway Supt. and the highway personell in remodeling the So. Lansing School for a Town all and also the Town Park at Myers. Letter filed. He also read and filed letters from Mrs. Helen Howland and Mr. and Mrs Brown urgeing a planning board. Mr. Howell presented and explained maps of the Park made by engineer Mac Dowell and Surveyer Miller and Crandall explaining that an agreement had been reached with Vastbinder and # aradisky for a right of way into the Park, also a purchase ggreement had been signed. The Supervisor read letter from Mr. to gouri of the Tompkins County Health dept. stateing that installation of a dry type dust collector had been installed by the General Crushed St one-Asphalt Plant also one had been installed by Beesemer at Cayuga Crushed stone Co. but this had not been adequate and would be ee designed to be more efficient. t - The Highway Supt. and others of the Board stated that there still was quite a dust nuisance . The Board decided that they would follow thru and advise the Health dept. and the industries to this effect.
