HomeMy WebLinkAbout1961-07-17July 17, 1961 The Town Board met informally with the Committee appointed to make a study for the need of a planning board in Lansing, this meeting was held at the South Lansing Fire Hall, being an invitation from the Committee to meet with them for a discussion and to study their report. The Board met, with the Committee at 8:00 P. M. Board Members present: Harris Dates Supervisor Floyd Ferris Justice Fred Spry Justice Charles Howell Councilman James Kidney ..Absent Joseph McGill Clerk Committee present: Bernard Ruzicka Chairman Fred Edmondston Edward Haynor Jesse Solomon Dr. Lyman Fisher Frank Naegley Robert Baker Absent Bernard Ruzicka, Chairman, opened the meeting with statement that the following Motion had been adopted unanimously by those present, after considerable study and discussion. Mr. Edmondston read the motion: That the Town Board should consider the forming of a Planning Board. Discussion and Question period: The Supervisor asked the Chairman to explain to the Board how they arrived at their decision. Mr. Edmondston explained the Committee's reasons for the recommending the Board to consider forming a Planning Board. In view of the growth of the Town of Lansing and the changes that may come about by the relocation of Route 13 and further expansion of Research Park at Airport by Cornell University, a greater part of which is in the Town ofBRnsing. Also that an appointment of a Planning Board of the people from the Town was not enough; some professional help should be had not along the line of a full time or expensive group, but with proper searching a party could be found to work with a Plannning Board on part time at a nominal fee. Mr. Ruzicka and Dr. Fisher also explained their thoughts which brought about the Committee's decision. The pending water supply for the Town and future areas to be considered and a number of other reasons for sound planning in order to make the Town of Lansing an incentive for future industrial and residential development, and to assist in sound planning when relocation of present State Highways are considered by the New York State Department of Public Works, Mr. Haynor and Mr. Solomon explained their thinking along these same lines. Mr. Naegley said that planning over a long period of time would in itself make the Town of Lansing a desireable area for future development.
