September 12, 1960
The Lansing Town Board met in regular.session 7:30 P. M. at the South Lansing
Fire Hall with supervisor Dates presideing.

Visitors Gerald Stockton one of the candidates for office of the Justice of the
peace at the general election
The Supervisor opened the Oeptember meeting of the Board by introduceing
Gerald Stockton candidate for Justice of the peace sateing that lie had invited
the candidates to the meeting that they would be able to see the working of
the board meetings He.then asked for the reading of the minutes of the .Aug.
8th meeting.
Clerk read the minutes of the August 8th meeting no corrections approved.

The Clerk presented to the Board a bill received from the reporter Co.
for prepareing copies of Atty. Newma.n's brief on the Watchtower-,tax case
which atty. Newman is to °argue before the Court of appeals early in October.
amount of bill is $214.65
At this time the Supervisor read a letter from Atty. Charles Newman explaining
the Briefs and the action he would have to take not being to sure that
the dicision of the Apellate Division would be upheld. Letter and copy of
the Brief filed by the lerk.
The Town,Clerk advised the Board that the Sheriff's department had served
a notice of taw Suit against the Town of Lansing by Richard David and Stephie
David Of Hillcrest Road for damages in the amount of $150.00 caused by the
highway department in cutting the underground electric cable service to their
house . This was served August 30, 1960 1 :30 P. M. I notified Atty.
Williamson and sent him the copy served also notified the Supervisot .

Resolved by ilr. Howell seconded by Mr. Ferris.
Resolution , That the Supervisor contact County Atty. Robert �� "illiamson for
his advise on what course of action to take on the David Claim.
Carried all voted. Kye.
Mr. Tarbell chairman of the Assessors explained the results of the Assessors
and Supervisor s trip to Albany protesting the action of the Otate tax
equalization board rulein of the ted.uction of assessment on the Lehigh Valley
Railroad property in the own of Lansing , in the amount of $43,000, which
amount seemed a larger percentage of reduction than the other Towns in the
County . At the interview explanation showed that the percentage was figured.
on the amount of asseeement after the 10% was taken off in 1959 „ instead of
assessment before that time , and on the whole the Town of Lansing was not
any worse off from this drop than other towns were,
The supervisor explained the results of a meeting held at the home of Frank
Naegley with .residents of the South end of the Town of Lansing to consider
takeing further steps for the establishing of a water'District in that area.
Under a new federal provision application for interest free funds could. be
made to the Houseing ;nd dome 1�inance Agency , if the loans were approved
and. district formed loan would be paid Otherwise if not fea.seable the
loan would not have`tc be paid.

Supervisor presented his monthly report explaining same in detail and
fileing with the Toj•rn lerk
Town Clerk presented the bills.
Motion by Mr. Kidney seconded by Mr. Ferris:
That the bills numbered from 119 thru 128 as listed in record. of Town Accounts
be paid as audited

The Highway Superintendent gave his report stateing that he has a problem
in the barn on the Brown Farm , the barn should be taken dotim he could use
the lumber for ceiling up the Town Garage He has had an offer to take it
down for the roof .
he was advised to contact the Atty. Robert Williamson for legal advise of
the removal of Barn.
He reports the Ford Hill road has been.completed and past.Erwin inspection ,
and another week of good weather would finish Erwin project, on Creek road
and then he can start the Davis road at County Line,

I , the undersigned Town superintendent of Highways of the Town of Lansing ,
in the County of Tompkins, hereby certify, that the certain town highway, hereinafter
designated, has not been opened or worked for more than six years last past,
and.that the same has been abandoned by the public, and is no longer used as
a public highway, to wit, the town highway in said Town extending,from Houser's
Corner to Van Ostrand Road k i,*� i *Zoo.d $tate-Highway X34
East to County Road #151 known as the " Bacon Road"
Also, we ,Athe, undersigned members of the town board, constituting the
whole or a majority thereof, do hereby consent to the making and filing of
this certificate, and do hereby signe the same .
therefore, pursuant to Section 205 of the Highway Law, said. highway is
declared to be and hereby is discontinued.
Origimal of this certificate pr:)perly signed is filed in the Town Highway records
in the Tote Llerk's Office.

Resolved: that this meeting be-adjourned until October 3, 1960 7 :30 P. M.
South Lansing Fire Hall at which meeting estimates for budget of 1961 will be
