2. BioBlitz Planning and Community Outreach for the Lansing Center Trail “meadow”
Discussion centered on getting the “word” out about the Bioblitz event on August 8-9. Pat Tyrell
posted information on the town website and also distributed flyers to multiple sites in the community.
Two new flyers were presented by Marla – one of which gave instructions on the use of iNaturalist for
recording observations during the walks on the Center Trail. The CAC greatly appreciates the efforts by
Marla. Pat had also arranged for a port-a-john to be sited at the trail parking lot. Information about
the Bioblitz was also posted to several social media sites and businesses in the Lansing area. Travis has
indicated in an e-mail that he would provide a canopy. CAC members will be at the trail site by 8 AM.
While the reason for the Bioblitz was to identify various species of plants and animals that inhabit
the Center Trail area for informing decisions on a maintenance plan , Robyn noted that we will have to
come to a consensus as to what will be “maintained”.
3. Updates
-To move from bronze status (hopefully) to silver, some significant items will need to be completed
-Climate Resiliency Plan
-Greenhouse gas inventory
-EV charging stations
-Ashley Seyfried (Director of Sustainability, Southern Tier Regional Board) has indicated that a new staff
member will be hired to assist with CRPs. As this type of effort usually has costs associated with it, CAC will
need approval of the Town Board to move forward. Ashley will be attending the October CAC meet to
discuss future options.
- Several faculty members were contacted to see if some of the CAC efforts could be part of the student
projects. Waiting for responses.
- September CAC will be devoted to evaluating the Bioblitz and discussing the path forward
