Call Meeting to Order Present: Ed Dubovi, Robyn Bailey, Travis Kitch, Aziza Benson, John Hatfield, Brian Boerman, Kristin Maushart, Emily Phillips Absence: John Fleming Non-CAC attendees: Christine Montague (Town Board), Bruce Barber- Friends of the Lansing Center Trail A quorum of the CAC members. 2. Discussion of a Maintenance Plan for the Lansing Center Trail area Bruce Barber gave an overview of the past efforts to maintain a more “meadow-like” area encompassed by the Center Trail. As resources permitted, the Parks and Rec staff did some mowing in an attempt to control some invasive shrubs and trees. NYSEG has in dicated that equipment might be available for mowing if their schedule would permit. Overall, there is no long-term plan for keeping the area in a meadow-like status. It is recognized that this area is not a unique natural area as some parcels were recently farmed. However, it was determined that a first step in developing a plan was to do a “biological” inventory of the property, so that desired plants and animals would not be eliminated with a controlled moving plan. It was agreed that a “Bioblitz” wo uld be attempted near the end of July. CAC members are contacting parties that might be interested in participating in the event. 3. Old business No updates were available for the Climate Smart Communities 4. New Item The issue of siting of nuclear devices in the Town of Lansing was introduced. CAC members felt that more information was needed in order to appreciate the safety and environmental concerns surrounding this issue. The status of the fly ash pile on the Cayuga Operating Company property being proposed for the AI center was noted. Few residents of the Town are aware of the details of the SPDES permit. DEC will be contacted to determine whether a presentation on the permit can be arranged.
