SPECIAL TOWN BOARD MEETING
TUESDAY, DECEMBER 29, 1998 AT 7:30 PM
Those Present: Teresa M. Robinson, Supervisor
Ellard L. Sovocool, Councilman
Daniel J. Carey, Councilman
Donald N. Palmer, Councilman
Donald F. Scheffler, Councilman
Purpose of meeting was to perform year end audit of Town Records.
Since books have not been closed out and the Town intends to hire an
Independent Auditor to audit financial statements of the Town within the
required time frame, it was not necessary for the Board to audit records.
Board discussed appointing alternate to the Town Planning Board and Appeals
Board. Some names mentioned were Jim Pratt, Mildred Warner, Mark Perosio, and
Roger Murray. Some unanswered questions: 1) Would they be permanent or
temporary - 2 year appointments? 2) Would they attend all 12 meetings or as
an alternate, 6 meetings, or only in absence of regular members? 3) Would
they receive same compensation? Consensus of Board was not to do anything
until they have more information.
Supervisor Robinson had word that the Village was considering eliminating the
Village Justice position. That would mean the Town would be taking over if
the referendum passes. They will still need a candidate for Village Justice.
It will mean an additional cost to the Town.
Councilman Scheffler said that Rick Hendricks of West Groton Road is
interested in being the Town's Dog Control Officer.
Supervisor Robinson asked Board Members if they knew of anyone interested in
serving on the Tompkins County Environmental Management Council and the
Tompkins County Cable Television Commission.
The Tompkins County Municipal Official Meeting will be held on January 19,
1999 at 6:00 PM at the Lehigh Valley Restaurant in Ithaca.
December 29, 1998 - Special Town Board Meeting - Pg.2
Letter received from Groton Rotary requesting the Town's input and cooperation
in continuing hiking trail from Dryden to Moravia.
There being no further business, Councilman sovocool moved to adjourn meeting,
seconded by Councilman Scheffler, at 8:12 PM. Unanimous.
