Thursday evening June 6, in the Dryden Methodist parsonage. the ceremony was performed by the Rev. Jesse
Mullete Mrs. and Mrs. Willis will reside in Enfield Center.

EnfieldBuys Land ForBuildings ENFIELD In special session Wednesday night, the Enfield Town Board signed a
purchase offer with Harry Willis to buy approximately two acres of land upon which the town intends to
construct additional Highway Department buildings. Supervisor Clair Updike and Town Highway Superintendent
Wesley Rolfe were authorized to obtain estimated costs and to study the size and type of biulding to be
constructed. Grading will be started soon, and awell drilled. TheTownBoard resolved that any person wishing to
start a junk yard in the Town of En field must pay a $25 deposit whichwill be held by the board until a public
hearing is held. If a license is issued, it must complywith state specifications. Updike said today that the law reads
that two unlicensed vehicles upon a person's proper ty constitutes a junk yard. He warned that the townboard will
"watch the situation" inEnfield and will take legal

Birthday banquet, hetd In the Kn-fle-ld Grange Hall Tuesday even-In-r. February IS. was attended by IS men. A
delicious supper was served by a group of men from the Enfield Methodist Church. Henry Rothermich was
chairman o.' the supper committee. Silas Hubbell. Ora Wilson. Harry Bul-lar-d. Harry Willis. John Thall.
WUItam Laughlin. Joel Wallen-bec-k. George Lane. Clarence FltchPatrick. and Allan Runwey worked In the
kitchen. Frank Rothermich had charge of the dining room. Hewas assisted by WillisKnapp.WalterKnapp. John
Wellman. CharlesWellman. Abner Ramsey. OUn King. Floyd Rum-se-y and Asa Cummlnsrs. H. P. Bailey.

Mitchell acted as toast-maste-r. Scout Commissioner K. B. Spear of Ithaca led the sing ing. After presenting
briefly the purpose of a Community Men's Brotherhood. Mr. Mitchell Intro duced Stewart Coates. president of
the Mecklenburg--Cayutavllle--Perry City Brotherhood. Mr. Coates brought the greetings of his group and set
forth some of the advantages of such a men's organization. The next speaker was S. Bruce Wilson, secretary of
the Ithaca T.M.C.A.. who In an Interesting and effective manner presented the Importance of the Men's
Brotherhood movement. A group of eight boys from Scout Troop No. T of the First Methodist Church of Ithaca
presented a playlet. "Taming aTough." show ing some of the things a Boy Scout knows and does. Scout
Commissioner K. B. Spear presented the work of working with boys. Scoutmaster J. P. Porter of Cornell
University told f his work with the boys and what scouting had meant to him personally. Rev.C. L. Terrill par

ENFIELD CENTERJohn Ju ba'. of Enfield Center was in stalled as chief of Enfield Vol unteer Fire Company
Saturday night at the annual dinner. Fire men also learned that the new tanker truck is ready for work. Other
officers for the coming year include: President, Roger Hubbell; vice president, Harold Clark; recording secretary.
Rob ertGrey; financial secretary. Alert Inman: treasurer. Vincent Oliver; first assistant chief, Howard Liv
ingstone; second. Floyd Carlisle; captain, Dominic Seamon; first It., Norman Snyder; second. Robert Cornish and
director for four years, Harry Willis. The companys nelAest truck was purchased and fitted during, recent months
whileDominic Sea mon was Fire Chief. The 1963' Ford tanker has a capacity of 1,600 gallons with a penetrator
installed by firemen since the first of the year. They plan to add a front mounted pump soon. The
EnfieldVolunteerFire Corn-pan-s saw its beginning in the fall of 1947 when a group of Town of Enfield men met
for organiza tion. Committees went to work and a charter was granted on Feb. 3, 1948. There were 52 char ter
members. A plot of land adjoining A plot of land adjoining the !GrangeHall was donated byHarry Willis.
Money-raisin-g events were sponsored and the fire house be :gan to take shape the same spring. built largely by
volunteer labor In June 1948, a Chevrolet pump-er truckwith American LaFrance equipment was delivered, a con
tract was signed with the Town of Enfield and the Enfield Volun teer Fire Company was in busi ness. The first
annual field day was held in June 1953, enabling firemen to reduce standing debts and plar for additional
equipment

Mrs. Warena Ramsey received 50 year Gold Sheaf awards from Enfield Valley Grange in a special program
Tuesday night.

Death (19 June 1981): Harry Willis, 84, of 202 Enfield Main Road, Ithaca, died today June 19, 1981 at
Tompkins Community Hosptial after a long illness. He was a life-long resident of the Town of Enfield. Mr.
Willis was a 60 year member of the Enfield Valley Grange and a life member of the Enfield Volunteer Fire
Company. He is survived by his wife Gladys Conover Willis; a daughter, Mrs. John (Helen) Jackson of Enfield;
three grandchildren two step brothers, William Ellis of Rochester, and Robert Ellis of Ithaca; several nieces,
nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be held at 2 m Saturday in the Ness Funeral Home, Trumansburg
Burial will be in Grove Cemeter, Trumansburg. There are no calling hours. In lieu of Flowers, donations may be

GLADYSWILLIS ENFIELD Gladys Willis, 92, entered the pres-ence of the Lord peacefully Saturday, August 5,
2000 at the Ithaca Hospicare Center, where she had lov ingcare fromstaffand fam ily. BominTrumansburg, NY
onApril 26th 1908, Gladys was the daughter ofElihu andAnnaDurlingConover. Upon graduating from Ithaca
Business School Gladysworkedat theBiggs Company in Trumansburg and than twenty-fiv-e years for the NYS
Agricultural Extension Service, where she was an Secretary accountant until 1968. Gladys and husband Harry
resided inEnfield. In 1990 then she moved to Juniper Manor in Trumansburg where she resideduntil herdeath.
Gladys devotedher life to her family, community and Enfield Baptist Church where shewas treasurerfor 25years.
Her patience and under standingwill bemissedbyall ofGladys friendsand family members. She is survived by a
daughter Helen Jackson and husband Ed Hetherington of Enfield: grandson Brian Jackson of Enfield;
granddaughter Mary Ellen and Jeremy Burdick, and n. Victoria andCaitlyn Burdick of Painted Post, NY, and
many nieces and nephews. Gladys was preceded in deathbyherhusbandHarry (1981), son James (Chip)(1962).
and grand daughter Ann-Lare-e (1993). AcelebrationofGladys life will beheldSunday, August 13th at 4:00 p.m. at
