1865 Barn
Tin Man Sign on the Barn
It was about 1900 when Gramma Cowen drove Grandson Harry Willis
in her horse & buggy to Ithaca to buy him a new pair of leather cowboy
boots. They went to Wahl and Son Shoe store. Then in payment for the
boots they got the"tin man sign" and had to hang it on their barn to
advertise the shoe store.
The sign was first put on a barn at the Applegate Golf Course location.
Than the sign traveled to Enfield in 1907, where it has remained all these
years. In 2010, the old barn was torn down and a new Barn/Garage was built.
The sign was saved and mounted on the new Barn/Garage.
The shoe store advertised "No Weak Spots in our Shoes".
The Cowboy boots were saved and remain in the Barn/Garage with its stor
y.
