Enfield – September 21 – Miss May Byrum began her school in District No. 1 at Enfield, known at the Heads District on September 10. (District #1 – Tubbs - located on the northeast
corner of Aiken and Podunk Roads. It appears at this corner on the 1866 map. Annexed to District #1 Town of Ulysses July 13, 1945.)
Farmers are very busy these days cutting corn; some are suing the binder others are doing the work by hand, the latter seeming to give the best satisfaction. John H. Rockwell paid
25 cents per dozen in cash at the door for eggs last Monday.
Roy Smith of Trumansburg, began his school in district No. 6, Ulysses and Enfield last Monday. W.T. Nivison, trustee in this District and assistant Michael Gray have been doing some
fine grading on the school ground. (District #6 - Ulysses - Enfield Located northeast corner of Jacksonville and Iradell Roads. Appears on the 1866 map at this location. ).
Mrs. Abigal Harvey, widow of Joel Harvey, who had the misfortune to break her leg at or near the ankle joint, is doing well. Acomplete recovery is expected.
Enfield Falls – September 20 - Mrs. Alonzo Rumsey is in Painted Post visiting friends. Lizzie Quigley has returned to school work at Syracuse. Mrs. Ella Mattison has bought a one
horse surrey of Mrs. H. Eddy. F.G. Sumerton has brought a new power to use for thrashing, etc. A fox hound got after H.A. Rockwell’s flock of turkeys and killed four. Nettie Summerton
is sick. Mrs. Rumsey has recovered from a severe attack of tonsillitis. Soon after F.G. Summerton started with his family horse to Trumbulls Saturday evening she became frightened,
jumping one side, throwing herself breaking both shafts, partly demolishing the carriage and breaking the harness.
September 28 – Farm help is scarce that some crops will not be gathered. Oscar Rumsey is having a new shingle roof put on his house. Darwin Rumsey took the first prize at Dryden fair
on his fine team. Elmer Rumsey is turning out a large number of brooms each week from his shop.
November 22 – Gordon Russell is building a large new hennery. Mrs. Kate Jackson fell last Monday hurting himself. A large dancing party was held at Wright’s Hall last Friday night.
Charles Hedglin and James Hine are completing large new hen houses.
November 27 – Jay M. Russell who is connecting up engines for a company in St. Johnsville was at work in a lumber camp in Pennsylvania, when he saw a mother bear and two cubs. He was
armed with only a revolver but he killed one cub and took to his heels. F. G. Summerton and daughter Nettie, attended a birthday party Monday evening at Black Oak corners, given in honor
of Frank VanMarter.
December – Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Gray entertained a large company of relatives on Friday. The Ladies Aid which met with Mrs. Briton Osterhout last Wednesday, finished a quilt. Friday,
Dec. 21st, there will be a Xmas tree and exercises held at school house at the Falls in the afternoon.
