I planted broom corn to hopefully make a few brooms with our history club in the fall, and the corn is growing rapidly. This will go along with learning about our local broom maker Alonzo Rumsey from the 1920’s. Thanks to all who showed up to view the 1903 signature quilt on May 4 at the Town Hall. Many thanks to Helen and Ed Heatherington, and the other owners of the quilt, for sharing this wonderful piece of history with the Town. There was a lot of “genealogy” shared that day. I have been working with Carol Kammen updating the Tompkins County Historians webpage. Tompkins County is updating all their web sites so it is a learning process as we go. We are hoping to add a listing of the Civil War Units of Tompkins County, the history of the church buildings of the county with pictures, one-two room school houses and our listing of “significant women in Tompkins County”.
