The Enfield Historians files hold a collection of house history. It ranges from pictures of houses, house numbering letters, Building-Structure Inventory from NYS Historic Trust, and
information of families who lived in the houses. Here are a few notes found within the files:
Applegate Road 230, in 1913 lighting struck burning all the barns and outbuildings, except the house. A new barn was built from material of the old Central School in Ithaca. Bostwick
Road: 677, built by Levy Newman approx. 1834; 730, built between 1860 – 1880 by Samuel Graham (1818-1895); 772, built by Purdy 1804; 765 built by Purdy 1835. Buck Hill Road: 59, built
by Warren’s back part over 100 years old; 457, built by Dr. Fisher (Vet). Connecticut Hill Road: 147, Former Nobles School House; 215, referenced as Dandelion Hill and Arthur S. Nobles
Residence; 302, in 1845 by Hugh Hulse Smith prior to that famly lived in a log cabin on the property; 329, built by Schuyler Rumsey 1844. Enfield Center Road East, 584 Unknown initial
construction but Mrs. Brown’s mother (Mrs. Whitman) was born there in 1853. Enfield Center Road West, 7 Methodist Church, this building was restored/remodeled when it was moved in 1876
to its current location. Halseyville Road 190, built by Ernest Smith. Enfield Main Road 225, built by John Wortman between 1836 – 1850. Iradell Road 449, Builder Horace and Ursula Lanning
1867. Family Lanning – Russell – Carpenter. House always been in family. Leonard Road 175, 1812 log cabin house made from cabin Mrs. Husted said Mrs. Hulse Smith told some of this story.
Mecklenburg Road 1774, built 1864-1874 VanKirk homestead; 1795, built by English 1817; 1901, built by Ed Bagley 1830-1840; 2081, built by Mr. Tompkins 1924-1826; 2145, built in1831 Quick
Claim deed to James Nicholas - Ross, Kaleb, Miller. Miller bought in 1857; 2290, built by Rolfe in 1842; 2553, built by Hausners in 1804. Halfway house – stage coach stop. Rockwell Road
5, 1820’s First owner Beech sold to Summerton who had it until 1920. Summerton’s all buried on property; 101, built 1870 by Silas Harvey. Sheffield Road 354, house built around 1820
moved from Eastern A. Production Center in 1980.
