Cars Hurdle Bridge
At this point the front part Of
the train was brought up with a
Jerk and the cars began to pile up,
hurdling the bridge and overturn-
ing. Some of them were boded up
a slope after breaking loose- The
last nine cars and the caboose In
which the trainmen were riding re-
malned on the track when the
brakes set. The locomotive and first
19 cars also remained on the track -

from Ithaca and Sayre called a
labor battalion of Mezlcana from
the Van Etten work camp to repair
the torn up roadbed, and No. 17,
westbound, was the first train to
pass through the gap shortly after

All Cars Empty
Later In the day wrecking crews
brought heavy equipment and be-
gan clearing the wreckage strewn _

During the night and early this
morning passengers were trans-
ported by bus from Ithaca to Cay-
uta to connect with the four east
and westbound passenger trains
which were routed over the Sen-
eca Lake Division. From that point
the buses brought Ithaca passen-
gers back. They included the Trains
4 and 8, eastbound, due in Ithaca
at 11:51 P. m. and 1:31 a. m., and
Trains 7 and 11, westbound, due in
Ithaca at 2:42 a. rot. and 7:17 a. m.
The train was in charge of Con-
ductor Ernest Holland of Sayre,
Pa., who told officials that he real-
ized something was wrong when
the airbrakes "froze" and the rear
of the train came to • an abrupt
stop. At the same time he could
bear the rumble of the cars piling
up ahead.
Some Cars to Be Burned
Crane crews strived from Man -
Chester and Sayre, approaching
the wreck from bcth ends to clear
the right of way as quickly as pos-
sible, but it will probably be days
before the work Is accomplished,
Iofficials said today. Some of the'
cars badly damaged will be burned
on the spot and only the metal sa -

The bride, who was given In mer-
rings by Carlton E. \Valburn of
Greenfield. Mass., formerly of Ith-
aca, were a prices" gown of white
taffeta made with sweetheart neck.

tilly lace and attached to a beaded
tlara. Her necklace of penrle w" a
gift of the bridegroom. The bridal
bouquet was white roses and baby's
breath, tied with white ribbon.
The matron of honor was the
bride's sister, Mrs. Kenneth Eckert
of Danby, who wee attired In blue
taffeta with a halrband of blue rib-
bon and syringa blossoms. She car-
rled a colonial bouquet of garden
flowers.
The bridesmaids, the Misses "M-
ilan Russell, Dorothy Jenks, Bar-
bara Luce, and Teresa Bordont,
were dressed in pink and had hair -
bands of rosebuds and mocK
orange. They also carried colonial
bouquets of garden flowers-
- Jane Walburn, 5-year-nld daugh-
ter of. Mr. and Mrs. Walburn of
Green, ld, Mass., was ring bearer.
She wore a blue satin frock and
hat, and carried the rings on a
matching cushion.
Mr. Eckert was best man. The
ushers were William Dobell, Tame,
Murphy, Ivan Weaver, and Doug -
[arm Payne.

- aqua jersey print dress and a cor-
sage r red roses. The bridegroom's
moll. wore a dusty rose jersey

roses. The bridesmaids' flowers and
the altar decorations were arranged
by Mrs, Clara Penner,
A reception was held In the
church parlors, where a four -tiered
cake encircled with rosebuds was
cut by the bride and by Miss Cath-
erine Personius. Mrs. R. C. Osborn
served punch, assisted by the
Misses Cdtherine amd Ester Merle
and Mrs. Lucella Stillwell. Guests
attended from Greenfield, Mass.,
and from Springville, Corning, Et-
na, Varna, and Freeville.
The hride's going -away outfit

black hat -and shoes, white gloves
and purse, and a corsage of white
carnations,
After a wedding trip to New Eng-
land and Cape Cod, Mr. and Mrs.
Lumbard will reside In Ithaca.
The bride is a graduate of Ithaca
High School, class of 1942, and was
employed 4 years at the J. C. Pen-
ney Company, Mr. Lombard, who
was graduated from Ithaca High
School and Cornell, had 28 months,
