ENDICOTT, N. Y.—High prize
for the week ended May 30 in the
Plant 1 Suggestion Contest went
to Mr. Orren J. Rought, of the
Ordnance Assembly Dept., for de-
signing a fixture and method of
soldering for carbon brushes,
while Mr. Edward C. Kitchen, also
of Ordnance Assembly, took sec-
ond place with his suggestion on
a fitting problem.
Among the women winners for
the week were Julia Lovejoy,
Dept. 760, night shift; and the
following from the day shift:
Mary E. Stecker, Dept. 010, Helen
Seilich, Dept. 429, Helen M. Aton,
Dept. 901, Helen J. Puskenalis,
Dept. 035, and Mary Mikeska,
Dept. 621.
Mr. Rought came to IBM in
February 1935 in the Parts Sub-
assembly Dept. In February 1942
he was transferred to the Hori-
zontal Sorter Assembly Line and
in June of the same year to the
Parts Inspection Dept. In April
1943 he was transferred to the
Ordnance Assembly Dept.
Mr. Kitchen's observations led
him to believe that a hand scrap-
ing job could be done better by
milling and this proved to be the
case.
Mr. Kitchen's first assignment
with the IBM was in the Turret
Lathe Dept. in April 1941. A yeas
later he was transferred to the

Mrs. Sydney Giles of Ithaca RD 40
