This farm was located at 230 South Applegate Road. Lina and Charlie Jones moved to
the farm May 30, 1913. The original barn was struck by lightning June 24th of the same
year. All the buildings burned except for the house. With the help of Charlie Stringer, a
new barn was built. Central School in Ithaca burned down about the same time. The
family obtained the lumber from the burnt school house to build the barn. Lumber for the
frame work of the barn was bought from a mill in Pony Hollow and delivered by horse
power. No trucks in those days. They changed the kitchen in the house at this time also.
Ceiling and floors were replaced using lumber from the school. John and Helen Smith
purchased the farm in 1965. They ran the farm under the name of “Cowbell Farm”.
Sometime in the late 1980’s the barn was torn down and some of the lumber was used
in building Norm and Cindy Smith’s home on Enfield Center
Road. http://townofenfield.org/throw-back-thursday-enfield-history/
