This is the Applegate Tavern in 1955. It is assumed to be named from
John Applegate who settled in the town area in 1806. The first log tavern at
Applegate’s Corner was built in 1807. Its frame replacement was probably
built before 1825, a part of it was used as a store and post office from that
year on for the Catskill Turnpike. A historic Marker marks its place in history
(north-east corner of Mecklenburg and Applegate roads).
