The old Catskill Turnpike (before 1804), the county’s major east -west road, Rt. 79,
crosses Enfield as Mecklenburg Rd. This location, 1795 Mecklenburg Road, according
to Warena Ramsey one of the previous owners, was used as a rest stop on the
Turnpike for livestock drovers of cattle, horses, and turkeys. “It was said to be quite the
sight to see the drovers come out in early morning to recapture their turkeys amongst
the pasture trees.” At one time there were 3 barns located behind the house. Warena
stated that the house was constructed approximately in 1817 by her great great
grandparents Jonathan and Susanna Rolfe. The back part of the house was built
between 1860 and 1870. This house was destroyed by fire on September 3, 2015.
