HomeMy WebLinkAboutEnfield Court - Bob BockThrow Back Thursday - Town Court In memory of Bob Bock (1925- 2015) This house at 101 Rockwell Road was where Enfield Town Justice of Peace held a part of Enfield town court from 1944 to the mid 1960’s. Bob Bock's father Fred, started out in 1944 as JP and then when he retired Bob was elected to serve as JP and Town Board Member (1962). Bob retired in 1989 as JP. The Ithaca Journal published two articles on the Bock family tradition of town service - June 13, 1986 and December 26, 1989. Thanks...Notes from the Dave Bock Family: The Harveys moved to Enfield in 1807. They settled on what is now Harvey Hill Road. Each of the sons was given land to farm when they came of age. Silas Harvey II got our place what is now Rockwe ll Road. Not sure of the exact year, but the first house there burned down. The current house was built in 1854, I believe. It had been continuously inhabited by Harvey descendants until my Bocks sold it to the Elrods. Fred moved there when he got married, in the early 1920s. Grandma Martha Bock was a Harvey, although her maiden name was Gray because it was her mother that was born Harvey. Bob Bock was the 5th generation in the Harvey (then Bock) lineage to work that farm. This is why we named the forest preserve Bock-Harvey (More details at Finger Lakes Land Trust - www.fllt.org.) The other branch of the original Harveys became the Stevensons, and the Stevenson preserve is another part of the original land holdings in Enfield.
