The ECC Has a
New President!
Hello, my name is Joe
Schehr and I am the new president
of the Enfield Community Council.
I am writing to let you know that the
Community Council needs new
members, we are an open
community group where all people
have an equal voice. We are
especially interested in recruiting
parents who use our programs. The
Council meets one evening a month
to discuss our general business and
planning needs. We also need
individuals who would be interested
in serving on program committees
such as summer camp, enrichment,
teen, and harvest festival. We also
have other specific tasks we need
assistance with such as making
phone calls, doing registration tasks,
assisting with mailings, etc.
Our most current need is for
individuals to serve on the Summer
Camp Committee. Although you
may be looking at snow out your
window, we are beginning to plan
how Enfield kids will spend their
summer. Last year over 95 youth
participated in the summer camp,
we are anticipating at least that
number this year. We need input on
decisions regarding fees,
Elise Skalwold, Edit
scholarships, staffing, activities and
the length of the day. We also need
to design a registration system so
we know the number of youth who
will attend early enough to hire an
adequate number of staff.
I would like to invite you to
attend the next Community Council
meeting:
March 20th 1997
7:00 PM
Enfield Community Center
If you feel as if you can not
make the commitment of serving as
a member of the Council please
spend some time thinking if you
would be willing to serve in another
capacity. Perhaps you would be
interested in serving on a specific
committee or helping with
registrations or mailings. This is
your community, Let involved. we
need new members if we are going
to continue to be able to offer our
current array of programs. Please
feel free to call me at 273-3350 if
you have any questions. We'll be
looking forward to seeing you at the
next meeting!

The ECC Provides Many
Services!
The Enfield Community
Council is a non-profit community
organization which provides a
variety of social, recreational, and
educational programs for Enfield
youth and families. The
Community Council was founded
some twenty years ago by a group
of parents looking for activities for
their children. They decided that we
needed more opportunities right
here in Enfield for our children and
started a play group for
preschoolers. Over the years our
programs have grown to meet the
needs of working parents, teens, the
school, and the community at large.
.We have worked hard to find
funding for our programs to
supplement tax dollars so that today
we have an annual budget of
$86,000 to provide a real variety of
programs for Enfield residents. Our
funding comes from a variety of
sources including: the Town of
Enfield, United Way of Tompkins
County, New York State Division
for Youth, Tompkins County Youth
Bureau, fees, fundraising, „ and
donations. We try to offer programs
which are affordable for all Enfield
families.

A LETTER FROM REPRESENTATIVE
DANIEL M. WINCH
DearTEntleld Residents,
Here's wishing you a
happy, healthful, and suc-
cessful new year. It is a time
to take stock of our resources
and plan for future needs.
This hopefully is the same
plan whether looking at a
family budget or a county
budget.
With a new chairperson,
Barbara Mink, it is also time
to reflect and head off in new
directions and to improve on
past programs. Barbara has
committed to take the Rural
Affairs Committee's results
and put that information into
programs. I wish her well in
that endeavor.
As a person previously car-
rying a large committee as-
signment load, I appreciate
Barbara's combining of com-
mittees to make for less meet-
ings. Elected officials and
staff will have to be well pre-
pared and spend committee
time and involvement wisely.
This is one area where Barbara
and I think very much alike.
This year will be very interest-
ing, and I hope very produc-
tive.
Let me hear your thoughts
or please write to me with
your ideas. Your input is
valuable.
Thank you and I hope that
you too have a good year.
Sincerely,
Daniel M. Winch

In addition to the Charter

has made a decision to avail ourselves with
enhancing the relationship within the
community and the quality of dedicated
service it provides. It is our plan to sponsor
community related events which will enable
us to establish a more positive rapport with
all.
Our Explorer Post has been very
active this year. Almost every Thursday
evening there is some forth of training or
work detail scheduled. In addition, our
Explorers are trained to assist at most
emergency scenes. The Explorer Post has
twelve active members. As a group, during
1996. they have dedicated more than 1000
hours of community service to the Town in
the form of fundraisers, work details, fire
and rescue trainings and emergency calls.
To become an Explorer, one must be 14
years old and have completed eighth
grade. If interested, please call Roy
Barriers at 277-3843 or Greg Kirchgessner
at 272-2241.
Aside from running emergency
calls throughout the year, the Fire Company
is actively involved in other community
events. Four times a year, many of the
members are involved with the 'Adopt -A -
Highway program (dean up of the roadside
along route 327 from Route 79 to Trumbulls
Comers Road). There are various fund
raisers which take place throughout the
year, such as the Car Show. This year it is
scheduled for the 3rd of August. Other big
fund raisers are the chicken barbecues.

in becoming a member of the Fire Company
and sharing your expertise, contact any of
the members listed above, or just visit the
Fire House any Thursday evening from 7-9

As you can see from the
fundraisers and various community events
just mentioned and from the Annual Report,
the Fire Company is very active in the
community in many ways. We are always

Letter from Jerry Felgenhour, past interim
principal at Enfield School to Dr. Pastel,
Dated 12,'13196:
I want to inform you of the recent
Apple for the Teacher Award winners for
the current school year. They had the
awards ceremony a couple of days ago
where 10 weekly winners were honored and
the two grand prize winners were
announced. We are proud that the top two
winners were both Enfield teachers. Diane
DeAugustine was awarded a computer for
the school as the top prize and Susie Davis
was awarded a bunch of prizes including a
coat and t-shirts for her students.
Of the 10 weekly winners, Ithaca
had three, The two from Enfield and Steve
Kirsch from Boyton We thought this was
great recognition for several of our great
teachers.
