SUMMER PROGRAM PLANNING It is the councils expectation that because of the probable asbestos removal from the Enfield School, we will not have access to the building for our summer program. The Enfield Community Council remains committed to offering some type of summer activities but there are many issues to be faced. One possibility is a "swim bus"(Tomtran) to the state park. We are in need of your input. Please contact any of the officers with any ideas or suggestions. We need to organize a program planning committee NOW! Also, if anyone is interested in summer employment in this yet to be determined program should contact Margaret "Marnie" Kirchgessner. • Let us know your opinions on the swim idea or any other ideas you may have. Call now so you can be involved. Cynthia Ikuta, 273-4696 Pastor • 11 ENFIELD VOLVNTEER PIES COMPANY INC. Election of the 1999 officers was held on December 17, 1937. our annual banquet and installation of officers was held December 19 at the Enfield Valley Grange. As always the Grange members served an excellent meal, and if you went away hungry it was your own fault. The new officers are as follows: Chief Asat.Chief/EMS Asst.Chiet/Training Asst.Chief/Maint. Captain Lieutenant Fire Invat.Captain Fire Police Captain President Vice President Treasurer Financial Secretary Recording Secretary s year Board of Dir Other active members include: Roy Barrister Larry Lanning Steve Turesik Jim Warren Larry Saulsgiver Clary Rumsey Jeff Brainard Paul Bostwick Denny Hubbell George May Roger Lauper Larry Stilwell Wayne Snyder Act Covert George Palmer Charlie Sheffield Dominic Season Greg Kirchgessner Brad Connors Bill Cisenherdt Charlie Sheffield Bill Eisenhardt Chris Westerberg Terry Manheim Bob stage Jim Siagard Jim Whittaker Gerald Hubbell Gary Nesbitt Bob Lauper Marty Schrisiber Jake Saithers Leon Rathbun Brad Fisher Roger Laue Martin Gait Dave Livingston There were a total of 10$ calls for 1987. which included 36 personal rescues, 17 motor vehicle accidents, 6 serious structure firms, 16 miscellaneous fire calls and 19 mutual aid calls. Awards were presented to the top three members participating in Firm Department functions. The three ■sabots for 1947 ore Dominic Seaman, George May and Roy Barriers. !n 1938 the fire company will be tackling one of the biggest projects in its history, the construction of a new fire station. Morton Buildings will be constructing the main true and shall. The interior will be finished by some local contractors and the department membership. Many businesses have already shots their support by either donating materials and labor, or promising them at reduced rates. In addition to the money rat aside by the Town Of Enfield, the Fire Department membership has committed its entire fundraising savings to the completion of the building. we also had such of the site work and the trucking of materials done by both the Town of Enfield and the Town of Ulysses Highway Departments. There has been some talk that the $2.20 per thousand increase In town taxes is due to the new fire station. This is not true. Only $.33 per thousand of that $I.I0 goes to the Fire Department. The remainder is for other town business, and has absolutely nothing to do with the fire department. It you look at the bottom of your tax bill there is a rate and total for fire protection, and this is the only moneys that the fire Department recelos from the torn tax. Other projects planned for 1998 include the purchase of a used vehicle that can be converted into a rescue vehicle. Our present rescue truck also doubles as a fire vehicle and is extremely overloaded. We have also had two situations in the last three months where a have had a fire call and a rescue call at the some time. The rescue equipment has to be removed from the truck and responded by private individuals. This extra time involved could mean the difference between life and death. The decision to have a separate vehicle for rescue will eliminate this problem. The Fire Department would alga like to remind the residents of the town that therm is an open burning law in Tompkins County. This law basically says that you are not permitted to burn anything other than small campfires without a burning permit. These rules and regulations are set up by the Health Department and if they are violated you could be ticketed and fined. This is a county law and the fire departments in Tompkins County must abide by these regulations. If the fire department is called on for a fire of this nature, and a permit has not been obtained, the fire department must extinguish the fire and notify a law enforcement agency. Please, let's not create any unnecessary situations. Call the Tompkins County Health Department before you burn. Chief Denny Hubbell Dear Enfield Resident, Another year has gone by. A year that has been very active for the Tompkins County Board of Reprostatives. Also it was a year in which I had the opportunity to work very closely with many residents in trying to keep a landfill out of their neighborhoods. This year we have experienced success by adding two road patrol persona to the T.G. Sheriffs Department. We are hoping that this will be a deterrent to rural crime and provide a quicker romponse time en emergency calls. In addition there will be two new recruits from the State Police Academy and two individuals reassigned to this county. This will give a total of six more policemen in Tompkins County. The Board is also working to provide a substation for the NY$ Pollee on the west side of the lake. This will provide a quicker response time to those communities west and south of • the lake. The biggest issue we faced in 1967 was the landfill. From the initial naming of sites, until the final vote, an Enfield site as in contention. This issue presented opportunity to work closely with many Enfield residents, soh of which formed the Concerned Enfield Citizens Group. All of these people worked hard to exclude the landfill from within Enfield boundaries. At the January meeting of the Enfield Town Beard I presented a Resolution of Appreciation to be passed by the Board. This resolution ides right of pagsl recognized the leadership, dedication, and involvement of three key individuals that led the fight against the landfill. The throe are: Sao Schweorer, Marti Stabler Cavanaugh and Gretchen Herrmann. All of Enfield owes these throe a 'thanks' for a job very well done. I truly enjoyed working with then. I wish to close by wbsbtng every resident on enjoyable now year. Rey you and your • town prosper.
