Happy Spring! It looks like spring might actually be here while I watch the
drizzle out my window. We have had (collectively) a very busy last three months.
Wow has time flown.
ECC made the decision last meeting to NOT have the Country Faire this
year. While many enjoy this event, we just don't have enough volunteers to get it
setup. I have high hopes that we can do it again next year as it is my favorite
spring thing for the last three years. The Harvest Festival will be September
29th, 2018. Save the date!
The partnership between the Grange and ECC has led to a really fun Teen
Night. Three teens organized the whole event from conception to clean up.
Twenty-nine teens and pre -teens attended. They all had a great time. The teens
may be organizing more events in the future.
Our shed behind the Community Building still needs some repairs. Anyone
who can donate time or materials, please contact Ann Rider at 227-1891.
As with all organizations that rely on volunteers, we need more help. Those
of us that are always helping are also always helping with other groups as well
(mostly things relating to our children). We are overloaded and starting to burn
out. Your donation of even 4 hours of your time a year can keep events going
(such as the Country Faire and the Harvest Festival). And while ECC greatly
needs volunteers, so do the Enfield Volunteer Fire Department, the Grange, the
Red Cross, the food bank, and others. Please give when you can.
As I always do, I encourage you to look in on your neighbors, especially
those that live alone. Also, with the recent up rise in shady people doing shady
things, please do not ignore the strange vehicle parked on the side of the road
or in your neighbors driveway. Call your neighbor to make sure everything is
okay. Or if there is no one there (or the vehicle is on the side of the road) call the
police. Do not use 911 unless it is an actual emergency.
Graduation and Prom will also occur before the next newsletter. PLEASE,
PLEASE, PLEASE do NOT drive impaired. This means do not drive after using
alcohol, drugs, or no sleep. Call a friend, call a parent, call a friend's parent! Call
anyone, just do NOT drive. And if you get that call, please just go get them and
do not lecture. Let's work together to make sure all are safe!
Be safe, Happy, and Healthy,
Cortney Bailey

Could YG.0 nd an Enfield Youth to Camp?
Over 70% of our campers come from local low-income families. We try not to turn away any child who wants to partici-
pate in our programs_ We have gotten many more requests for help in paying for our summer camp the last 3 years so
the Enfield Community Council is starting a scholarship fund to meet this need in our community. The 6 -week camp
season base fee is $405.00 per child; that's $67.00 a week_
Your donation of $405.00 will allow 1 camper to:
Participate in arts, science, sports, and craft activities.
Swim daily at Treman Park, opportunities for hiking, creek exploration, playground time
Go on many field trips that are scheduled: Taughannock Park, Greenwood Lake State Park, Watkins Glen swim pool,
Sciencenter, Hangar Theater, bowling
Have a healthy breakfast, hot lunches and bag lunches for field trips
Make new friends, play outdoors, have fun and be safe
The Enfield Community Council is a 501 C-3 not for profit organization - Your donations are tax-deductible.
Please make checks/money orders payable to Enfield Community Council, 168 Enfield Main Road, Suite 11, Ithaca, NY

Save Money With LED Light Bulbs
Are you still using incandescent light bulbs? Would you like to save money and use less electricity? LED light bulbs are an excellent solu-
tion.
Many people looked at LED light bulbs a few years ago and concluded they didn't like the quality of the light they produced. The good
- news is the technology is now vastly improved and -the current LED light bulbs. The ones called "warm" and "soft white" look GREAT!
They contain no mercury (which compact fluorescents do). They're dimmable. And they're made in a large variety of wattages and shapes.
Why make the switch? It's pretty straight -forward _ _ _ you'll both save money and contribute to a cleaner environment -
Perhaps -you've been holding off because you think LED bulbs are too expensive. The cost has come way down. At the present an LED
bulb that lasts for 25,000 hours can cost as little as $3_ A 60 watt incandescent bulb may cost less but lasts only 1/25''' as long.
You will not only save on the cost of the bulb, but on your electricity bill. Here's a chart to show how much you stand to save annually by
switching to LED bulbs. It's based on 3 hours of use per 60 Watt equivalent LED bulb per day at $.11 per kWh. (Though in January 2017
the rate was higher at $.17 per kWh, so when the rate is up you'll save even more.)
So why not?

HELP!! Our roof has a hole in it!
When Vera and Ann went over to inventory supplies for
- the Harvest Festival, they noticed some shingles on the
grass. Upon visual inspection, it was quickly deter-
mined that they had fallen from the ECC shed, which is
behind the Community Building. In fact, there are
many, many shingles off this small building and the re-
maining shingles are in very bad repair. When they
looked inside, there are several places where you can
see light and the interior plywood shows evidence of
water damage.
Could we get a community volunteer to replace our
roof? The building is about 12 ft. high and roughly 12 X
16 ft. square. Does any one have some shingles left
over from a repair they have done recently that they
would donate? It would mean a lot to the Community
Council. Call Courtney, 279-4702, Vera, 273-1413 or
Ann, 277-3478 if you would like to practice tour repair
skills and/or donate shingles.
