corroboration from Dennis Curtis of
South Cayuga street,a lineman em-
ployed by the New York Gas and
Electric Corporation.With a number
of other linemen,Curtis was erecting
poles and equipment in Dryden yes-
terday.He had a be of matches in
his trousers pocket.While Curtis was
pulling a heavy rope the friction
against his body ignited the matches,
setting his clothing afire.Curtis'trousers caught fire and he was
slightly injured and waa obliged to
return to this city for medical atten-
tion and new clothing.

for sheriff,today offered his congratu-
lations to Mr.Skilling,successful
candidate,and promised him his sup-

against Mrs.Boole,pave Senator
Wadsworth a plurality of 38.In that
township,Senator Wadsworth receiv-
ed 82 votes and Mrs.Boole 44.Mrs.
Bole received pluralities in the other
townships as follows:Danby,15;
Groton,9i;Town of Ithaca,70;Lans-
ing,9;Newfield,33;Ulysses,14;Dry-de-n.

criminal cases presented for consider-
ation by District Attorney Arthur G.
Adams,the grand Jury reported 11
open indictments and one sealed in-
dictment to Justice Theodore R.Tut-
hill in Supreme Court yesterday.
John J--Hendricks of Groton was
indicted for grand larceny,burglary
and petit larceny.He was alleged
to have burglarized the premises of
Charles Kelly and Harry Masters in
the Tcwn of Groton.He will plead to
the indictment this afternoon.
Floyd King of this city was in-
dicted for grand larceny,it being al-
leged that he robbed Ira Sincepaugh
.of $134 in an East state street pool
room.King was to be arraigned this
afternoon.
George Scott,Lionel Kendall and
Arthur Laidlaw,all youths,were in-
dicted for burglary in the third de-
gree and petit larceny.It is alleged
that they broke into the Quick shoe
store on West State street and stole
shoes and $34 in cash.Charle?
Bachna,Arthur Laidlaw and John C.
Francis were indicted for grand lar-
ceny in the second degree and burg-
lary in the third degree.They are al-
leged to have entered the Ultimatum
cigar factory on West State street,
stealing cigars valued at $60.Arthur
Laidlaw and George Scott were in-
dicted for burglary in the third de-
gree and petit larceny.They are
charged with entering the John Fran-
cis store on West State street and
stealing 25 pairs of stockings and
$3.70 In cash.These boys,indicted for
alleged crimes occurring on the same
night,were to be arraigned this aftern-
oon.
Andrew Holley,Indicted for grand
larceny in the second degree,was
given a suspended sentence by Just-
ice Tuthill yesterday.Holley rented
a horse and wagon of George Barber,
a local liveryman,and after selling
the outfit,fled to Akron,Ohio,where
he was arrested and brought hack
here.
liquor Case Up xt Week.
James Foley of Lansing,was In-
dicted for violation of the liquor tax
law.it being charged that he had
liquor in his possession.His case
was set down for next Wednesday aft-
ernoon.
Floyd Payne,an Ithaca youth,was
indicted for grand larceny In the sec-
ond degree.It is alleged that Payne
found and retained a pocketbook con-
taining $217,the property of George
H.Baker of Covington,Pa.Payne will
be arraigned today.
John Bickel of Lansing was In-
dicted for alleged violation of section
482 of the penal law,charging cor-
ruption of morals of children.He
was also Indicted for rape in the first
degree.The main witness against
Bickel is Elizabeth Hodge,12,now
his wife.The Hodge girl was the
adopted daughter of Mrs.Ransom
Sweazey of Lansing.With his wife
dead but a few months,Bickel was
arrested on the corruption -charge.
After being held for the grand Jury,
Bickel.the authorities were Informed,
took the Hodge girl to Towanda,Pa.,
and married her there.He will plead
to the indictments on Friday morni-
ng.

secretary of state,Tompkins County

gaged in practice in this city and
county,and several other guests,last
evening were entertained at an In-
formal dinner given by Mynderse Van
Cleef at his summer home near Tru-mansbu-rg.
Dinner was served on the
