Dear Ms. Kammen:
The Town of Enfield Town Board voted unanimously on February 11, 2004 to endorse
the Community Celebrations 2004 application for the celebration of the Enfield Rural
School Reunion. This community -sponsored event provides the opportunity for those
who attended one and two room schools in Enfield to gather for a one -day reunion with
former classmates and teachers. Support for the reunion within Enfield is broadly based.
The Enfield Valley Grange graciously provides use of their hall and numerous
community volunteers who help in organization and in hosting the "guests" on reunion
day.
The event results in many former students traveling to Enfield and Tompkins County
from out of town and out of State. Some extend their reunion time several days to visit
family and friends in the Tompkins County area. The reunion also serves as an
opportunity to gather local history of the education system, its facilities, students, and
teachers. Especially noteworthy is the opportunity to see original school documents and
photos that the reunion members bring with them. Further, the reunion provides younger
generations the unusual opportunity to connect directly with and learn about a bygone era
from the past century.
Sincerely,
V U
