HomeMy WebLinkAboutschool dist 9 florence updike bulllivantMrs. Bullivant Taught Estimated 1,500 Pupils, TRUMANSBURG—Mrs. Florence Updike Bullivant of Christian Hill, Trumansburg, estimates she has taught more than 1,500 pupils over the years. She has found time for that feat of addition after 41 years of teach- ing, nearly all of it in Trumans- burg and nearby schools. Mrs. Bullivant retired last week. She was feted earlier this month. by the faculty, students and friends at Trumansburg Central School. Her teaching career began in a one -room school in old District 9 in the Town of Enfield. The next year she was principal of a two - room school at Mecklenburg. After continuing her schooling at Cortland State Teachers College, Mrs. Bullivant returned to her home District 13 in Enfield where she taught five years. The remainder of her teaching was done in' Trumansburg, first at the old school and later at the centralized school which opened in 1928. At Trumansburg she has taught the social studies on the junior high level. "Without discipline there would be no education. I don't mean that to sound harsh, says Mrs. Bulli- vant. She has been outstanding in at least three other areas in the com- munity. She has held high offices in both the Eastern Star - and —Journal Staff Photo MRS. FLORENCE U. BULLIVANT Grange and for 20 years was com- mittee woman for the Republican Party in the Town of Enfield. Mrs. Bullivant and her husband, Fred C. Bullivant, live on the farm where she was born. She intends to st4y there —with the _ hope of some Florida sun• shine to lighten the winters.
