SPECIFICATIONS FOR
NEW HIGHWAY GARAGE
TOWN OF ENFIELD
APPLICATION:
The original specification prepared by Resource Associates of 27 North Church Street, Cortland,
New York 13045 dated January 31, 2011, remains in full force and effect, except and only as
changed by this Addendum No. 1 which hereby becomes a part of the original specification.
1. Reference : Advertisement for Bid, Information for Bidders
a. DATE of BID is HEREBY CHANGED TO MARCH 16, 2011
b. TIME of BIDDING OPENING IS CHANGED TO 5:30 pm. Location remains
the same.
2. Reference : Specification Sections 16050, 16430 NYSEG Application and Fees
a. DELETE: 16050 - 1.1 E, 1.4 B 1. and 16430 -1.1 B
b. INSERT: The owner has made application to NYSEG for the new permanent
electrical service and will pay fees associated with the same. This
will include poles along the access road and lights on those poles to
the building service entrance. Electrical Contractor will be
responsible for secondary service from NYSEG transformer to
building and temporary electric service to the site per section 01500.
Coordinate with NYSEG for requirements.
3. Reference Drawing S-1.22,Sections 01100,02300,15150,16050 underground electric
feeds for site and under slab buried sanitary and drainage piping. In order provide more
efficient use of available equipment, the General Contractor shall provide excavation and
backfill for exterior buried conduit and interior under slab sanitary drainage piping as
follows:
a. Site Electric : GC to excavate trenches a minimum of 30"in depth from building to;
i. Light poles,flag poles,holding tanks,spreader storage structure,salt storage
structure, fence gate, well,and other locations as indicated on drawings.
ii. Provide 3" bedding material in bottom of trench
iii. Electrical contractor to install conduit and pull wires and or conductors and
stub above grade.
iv. GC to cover with 3" of bedding material then backfill and compact.
V. Electrician to test conductivity before and after backfill.
vi. Runs to light poles, salt storage and spreader structures may be ganged in
single trench. Gate power and control and fuel storage structure runs may be
ganged in single trench.
b. Under Slab Drainage piping
i. GC to excavate trenches for buried sanitary lines at grades and approximately
locations shown. Coordinate with Plumbing Contractor. Minimum depth
of sanitary lines to be 18"`below'finish floor. Excavate to sufficient depth for
4 of bedding material under pipe.

Plumbing Contractor to install and test buried sanitary piping.
GC to provide backf ll with bedding material to 4" above piping with
assistance of Plumbing contractor to assure no damage to piping. Plumbing
Contractor is responsible for leakage or damage to piping and must oversee
backfill.
iv. GC to provide backfill and compaction with Structural Fill Material to
bottom of subbase and subbase for slabs.
C. ADD to 01100- 1.2 B 1 j .Excavation and backfill including bedding for site buried`
electrical conduits.
d. ADD to 01100 - 1.2 B I Excavation and backfill including bedding for buried
sanitary and drainage piping under slabs
e. ADD to 01 100 1.2 B 4 b "Excavation and backfill of exterior site buried electric by
General Contractor. Coordinate runs and installation timing".
f ADD to 011001.2 B b- "Excavation and backfill of buried below slab sanitary and
drainage piping will be by General Contractor at Plumbing Contractor's direction.
Coordinate runs,slope,installation,and timing. PC is responsible for protection of
buried pipe and overseeing bedding and backfill placement by GC.

A Framework: SS 40®Fence Framework to Standard Specification ASTM F
1043, Group IC. High-strength steel pipe triple coated per ASTM F 1043:
external coating, Type B internal coating, Type D
1. Terminal Posts 3" diameter
2. Line Posts : 2-1/2" diameter
3 Top and Mid Rails: 1-5/8" diameter.
B Fabric to be 9-gauge wire, woven in a 2"diamond mesh. Top selvage to be
twisted and barbed, bottom selvage to be knuckled unless otherwise
specified.
1. Aluminized fabric shall be manufactured m'accordance with ASTM
A 491 and coated before weaving with a minimum .40 ounces of
aluminum per square foot of surface area.The steel wire and coating
shall conform to ASTM A 817.
e. All ties and accessories to match above materials
f. CHANGE 2.1-F 1. by Deleting reference to "Heavy Duty". Gate shall be
"Structural"type with 4 4" posts and track on both sides of gate.
g. DELETE 2.1 F-5, 6, and 7 and INSERT the following:
5. Gate Frame
a. The gate frame shall be fabricated from 6063-T6 aluminum alloy
extrusions. The top member shall be a 3" x 5" aluminum structural
channel/tube extrusion weighing not less than 3.0 lb/If(4.4kg/m). To
maintain structural integrity this frame member shall be "keyed" to
interlock with the "keyed" track member. If fabricated as a single

horizontal piece, the bottom member shall be a 2" x 5" aluminum
structural tube weighing not less than 2.0 lb/lf. If fabricated in two
horizontal pieces, the bottom member shall be a 5", aluminum,
structural channel weighing not less than 2.65 lb/lf, and the two
horizontal pieces or sections shall be spliced in the field (the gate
frame shall be fabricated in one or multiple sections depending on
size requirements or project constraints).
b. Vertical Members(Chain Link):The vertical members at the ends of the
opening portion of the frame shall be"P"shaped in cross section with a
nominal base dimension of no less than 2"x 2" (51mm x 51mm) and
weighing not less than 1.6 lb/If(2.3kg/m). Major 2" x 2" (51mm x
51mm)vertical members weighing not less than 1.1lb/If shall separate
each bay 'and shall be spaced at less than gate height intervals.
Intermediate 1"x 2" (25mm x 51mm)vertical members weighing not
less than .82 lb/lf'(1.2kg/m) shall alternate between the 2"x 2"major
members.
C. Gate Track The gate frame shall have separate semi-enclosed"keyed"
tracks,extruded from 6005A-T61 or 6105-T5 aluminum alloy,weighing
not less than 2.9 lb/If. Track members are to be located on each side of
the top member. When interlocked and welded to the "keyed" top
member,it forms a composite structure with the top of the gate frame.
Welds are to be placed alternately along the top and side of the track at
9" (229mm)centers with welds being a minimum of 2"(51mm)long.
d. All welds on the gate frame >shall conform to Welding Procedure
Specification and Procedure Qualification Record to insure conformance
to the AWS D 1.2 Structural Welding Code. All individual welders shall
be certified to AWS D 1.2 welding code
e. Gate Mounting:The gate fi ame is to be supported from the track by four
(4) swivel type, self-aligning, 4-wheeled, sealed lubricant,ball-bearing
track assemblies. The bottom of each support post shall have a bracket
equipped with a pair of 3"(76mm)U11MW guide wheels Wheel cover
protectors shall be included with bottom guides to comply with Gap
protectors shall be provided and installed, compliant with ASTM F
2200-05.
f Diagonal"X"bracing of 3/16"(5mm)minimum diameter stainless steel
aircraft cable shall be installed throughout the entire gate frame.
6 The gate shall be completed by installation of approved filler as specified. Chain
Link:2"x 2"x 9 gauge aluminized steel chain link fabric shall extend the entire
length of the gate,counterbalance must also have fabric to prevent reach through
and comply with ASTM F2200. Fabric shall be attached at each end of the gate
frame by standard fence industry tension bars and tied at each 2"x 2"(51 mm x
51 mm)vertical memberwith standard fence industry ties.ASTM F2200 requires
attachment method that leaves no leading or bottom edge protrusions (cannot
exceed 0.5 inch).
7. POSTS: Double sets of support posts;shall be minimum 4" O.D. (102mm)
round SS-40 or 4"x 4"x 3/16"wall square steel tubing,grade 500. Gate posts
shall be galvanized as per other posts and supported in concrete footings as
specified by the design team.
h. CHANGE 2.1 F- 11 CONTROLS.

a. Push button control at door must be hold down for open and close.If released,
gate will stop moving. Button must have clear sight line to full gate to permit use
without additional safety on/off devices being installed on gate. If this cannot
be accomplished eliminate button.
d. General Contractor and Fence supplier responsible for low voltage control wiring
including remote push button control. Electric Contractor responsible for power
wiring to the gate control and motor. Coordinate conduit nuns and trenching.
5. Reference:Drawing M2.1 Equipment Schedule. Use Equipment Schedule in Specifications.
a. AS-1 to be decreased in size to match piping and circulating pump capacities
6. Reference : SECTION 13100 SALT STORAGE FABRIC'STRUCTURE
a. The structure shown on the drawings was based on a Cover-All Titan building. Other
Manufacturers meeting the specification and size are acceptable. Frame and fabric
components must meet specification.
7. Reference:Section 01100-12B 1 g(2),Alternate 7,Section 11801 Vehicle Exhaust Removal
System,Drawing M1.1,Equipment Schedule.
a. CLARIFICATION: Although normally a mechanical item, the Vehicle Exhaust
Removal System specified in section 11801 is to be included in the General Construction
Bid, NOT the HVAC bid. The equipment is located on Drawing M1.1 and it's fan is
listed in the Equipment Schedule as FUA-I. This is the equipment that is part of deduct
Alternate No 7. The fans and louvers for the main truck bay area ARE part of the HVAC
contract and are NOT part of Alternate No 7.
b. The system is based on a PLYMOVENT system.

8. Reference;Drawing S1.22,Lighting Schedule.
a. Fixture shown as LP on site drawing is fixture H on Lighting Schedule
i. Provide units with photocell operation and a timer for both exterior pole circuits
b. Fixture C may be chain hung or ceiling mounted. If chain hung they will be mounted
within 24" of ceiling. Height to;be coordinated with Co Ray Vac units to prevent
interference and damage.
9. Reference 13554. Pre-engineered Wood Frame Building,General Construction Bid Form,
Section 01200. The Pre Engineered Wood Frame Section is extensively modified and two
deduct alternates are added to the General Construction Bid form. These changes provide for
some variation in building details as follows:

I All material to meet AWPA Use Category Standard U l . Treated item shall bear
the quality mark of an independent testing agency or service certified by the
AWPA to inspect preservative-treated wood. (unless exception listed below).
2 Columns and posts below grade: Use Category UC4B or UC4C for use in
exterior in contact with ground with high or severe potential for deterioration
3 Sills,interior baseboard in contact with concrete not exposed to ground,UC2

As an exception ICC Evaluation Service Report 1980 ( Building Code

A Clear span frame: spacing of columns and trusses will be at manufacturer's discretion
withe the exception of overhead door locations. If column and truss locations are
changed from drawings,provide coordination drawings for other trades in DWG format
to allow other trades to modify equipment locations. General.Contractor responsible for
coordination ofplans with other trades and costs associated with the same. Window and
pass doors may be relocated to as needed to accommodate column spacing. .
B Primary framing-wood roof trusses, columns,headers, and wind bracing systems.
C Secondary framing-purl ins, girts,baseboards,fascias,blocking, grounds, furring and-
other items as required.

ADD 108 C All manufacturers submitting bids for the project must submit with the bid form
a list of at list 5 buildings of similar size and purpose, constructed in the Central
New York area within the last 5 years. Manufacturer must include name of
owner of facility, address,and date of construction as well as an owner contact
(not contractor)if available. To be of similar size and use,buildings must house
vehicles(municipal trucks, fire trucks,etc) ,have spans of at least 50' and be a
minimum of 10,000 sf in area.

tarpaulins or other suitable weather tight ventilated covering. Handle and

2. Deduct Alternate #11 will deduct backer panel and notching of girts, and `
baseboard and provide for mounting of wainscoting or base panel directly to
girts.
ADD 2.02 M Fasteners, corrosion protection
1. Manufacturer to provide stainless steel fasteners for all fasteners into pressure
treated material. In lieu of stainless steel,manufacturer may provide certification

from fastener manufacturer that coating or material used is suitable for use in
type of pressure treating material used without deterioration for the fastener type. ,
2 Provide certification that the panels used not require protection or separation
from pressure treated materials for the type use on the project. If no certification
is available,provide separation barrier between pressure treatment lumber and
back of panels where in contact:
DELETE 2.03 A,B, and C
INSERT the following:
2.03 A -Base Bid Exposed Fastener Exterior Roofing and Siding Panels to meet one of the
following:
1. Panel substrate shall be .019" thickness commercial steel sheet with an AZ55
Aluminum/Zinc (Galvalume)coating(ASTM A792).
a. The weather side of the panel shall receive a nominal one mil
polyurethane primer and a nominal one mil topcoat of 70%
Polyvinylidene Fluoride Resin ( * KYNAR 500 / HYLAR 5000 ) to
achieve a total paint film thickness of not less than two mils.
b. The non weather side paint system shall consist of a two coat finish with
a total nominal thickness of one half mil.
2. Panel;substrate 26 Gage,with AZ50 or 55 galvalume coating (ASTM A792)
Grade 80,000 psi structural steel. Configuration of ribs and panel suitable for
proposed loads and spans. Similar to Fabral GrandRib 3
a. Weather side finish:
i Alt I -Kynar 500 or Hylar 5000 1 mil and 1 mil primer
ii Alt 2 - Silicone Modified Polyester, min I mil over primer,
similar to Fabral Enduracote or Akzonobel Ceram-A-Star
2.03 B-Alternate#10 Deduct Bid -Exterior Exposed Fastener Roofing and Siding Panels
1. 29 gage,ASTM A792 galvalume or ASTM A 653 Structural G 90 Galvanized,
80,000 psi yield strength. Rib configuration suitable for span lengths and load,
similar to Fabral GrandRib3. Exterior finish - Silicone Modified Polyester
similar to Fabral Enduracote 1 mil minimum over primer.Interior finish with
galvanizing,zinc pretreatment, sealer coat,primer coat, and backer coat.
a. Warranty: 30 year Chalk and fade; 15 year minimum edge rust against
acid rain,25 year Non perforation against Acid Rain walls,and 20 year
-roofs.
2.03 C-Interior Liner panels-to be one of following:
1. Panel substrate shall be.019"MINIMUM thickness commercial steel sheet with
a G90 ( Zinc ) coating (ASTM A525). The exposed side of the panel shall
receive a nominal two tenths mil acrylic primer and a nominal eight tenths mil
topcoat of white polyester paint to achieve a total nominal paint film thickness
of one mil. The non exposed side paint system shall consist of a two coat finish
with a total nominal thickness of one half mil.
2. Same panel as Exterior wall panel
3. Same Panel as in 203 B above.
DELETE the words "placed in the rib of the steel." from the 4' sentence of 203 E.
Placement of screw fasteners in roof and`siding panels to be per panel
manufacturer's recommendation for wind uplift roofing rating and leakage
warranty. Ordinarily screw fasteners will be in flat section of panel.

1. Provide 5"style"K" gutter on both sides of building.
2. Material to be one of following:
a. same specification as trim
b. .030 minimum thickness 3004 H36 tempered aluminum alloy.
Exterior finish- Kynar 500 / Hylar 5000 paint system with a total
nominal thickness of one mil, hlteriorpaint finish shall be a nominal one
half mil polyester wash coat.
3. Silicone sealant and rubber gaskets shall be used at laps to maintain leak
prevention and to relieve,stress due to thermal movement.
4. Provide 3"x 4" downspouts with appropriate elbows and connector
bands. One per 1800 sf of roof area. Downspout locations to be
determine jointly with Engineer and Owner during submittal review.
ADD to 2.04
C. Vapor Retarders
1. Min 4 mil thick polyethylene sheets
2. '/2"thick foil faced polyisocyanurate sheets
D. Snow retainers;provide one of following:
1. Formed shape from .030" minimum thickness 3004 H36 tempered aluminum
alloy,finished with Kynar 500/Hylar 5000 paint system with a total nominal
thickness of one mil on the visible side. Wood blocking between purlins over
trusses. Non acidic sealant and screw fasteners.
2. SnoJax If or equal as per drawing with adhesive attachment per manufacturer's
recommendation for type of panel and finish.'Locate at purlins or blocking.
E. Steel comer bracing if used
1. Provide 1 '/2'wide high tensile steel strapping in all unobstructed comers in an
11XV1 configuration
ADD to 2.05'Insulation
E. Blown fiberglass ceiling insulation R38 with polyethylene vapor retarder.
DELETE 3.03 A
INSERT the following:
3.03 A Columns
1. Columns may be placed in augered holes on cast in place footings a minimum
of P thick. Diameter and depth of footings are dependent on column spacing
and uplift calculations. Manufacturer to provide calculations showing details.
Provide galvanized steel hold down angles or post anchors;
2 Concrete to meet Section 03300 Concrete requirements
3. Accurately position column in the hole. Set and hold plumb until concrete has
set.
4. Backfill with Structural Fill Material as specified in Section 02300. .
Compacted in 8"lifts to 98 %Proctor.
MODIFY 3.03 E to read
1 Install minimum 2"x4"purlins at minimum 24"on center and attach to trusses
with 60d ring shank nails. Size and,spacing of purlins may be modified

depending on manufacturers calculations.
MODIFY 3.03 F 1. to read
1. Install 2"x4" or 2 x 6 truss ties and ceiling joists at locations and spacing
recommended by Manufacturer. Provide calculations verifying load carrying
capability for minimum dead loads and truss spans.
ADD 3.03 H Interior Framing
1. Install 2"x 4"baseboard with bottom at top of slab planned elevations.
2 Install "x 4"horizontal stripping at maximum 33 1/4" o.c.in areas receiving
liner panels.
3. Install 2" x 4" horizontal stripping at maximum 18" o.c. and 2" x 4" vertical
blocking at 48"o.c. in areas receiving gypsum board.
ADD to 3.05 F 1.
"... Gutters may be installed with spikes and ferrules>spaced 24" o.c. if approved by
Owner.

H. Interior panels
1. Install panels perpendicular to supports, aligned level and plumb.
2. Panels to be fastened to wall girts or stripping with either 2 1/4" EPDM
washered ring shank nails or in the same manner as exterior siding panels.
3. Fasten panels to ceiling joists with 1"painted screws

over longitudinal blocking.

over vertical blocking.

provide blank cylinders to Contractor to take samples of concrete in the field.`Owner will
hire testing agency and pay for testing of samples and delivery. Contractors to provide
support and make site and facility available for testing as required.
b. If work is covered or performed without required-test occurring, contractor is responsible
for uncovering work or extra cost to TESTINGAGENCY for performing additional.
C. IF TESTS FAIL, CONTRACTOR WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ADDITIONAL
COSTS TO OWNER FOR RETESTING.
d. IF CONCRETE CYLINDER STRENGTH TESTS FAIL AFTER SPECIFIED
NUMBER OF DAYS, CONTRACTOR WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REMOVAL
AND REPLACEMENT.
e. Contractor or supplier is responsible for mix design testing and any factory or
independent test results to provide proof that furnish items meet specifications.

not able to install pipe by time contractor is ready to pour building floor,GC to provide
