ENFIELD — The town board adopted a
budget for 1984 with only a 1 percent increase in
total appropriations.
"We're trying to hold the line on taxes. It's
been a bad year financially for everyone," said
Town Supervisor Roger Hubbell.
But the contract with the volunteer fire
company, still not approved, calls for a 25
percent increase. Hubbell said the board's final
offer of $36,400 will increase the fire district tax
rate from $.857 per assessed thousand to about
$1.13, or about three cents per thousand.
Firefighters are holding out for $41,000 and
are threatening to close the fire station if their
demand is not met.
Total appropriations for 1984 are $342,968,
excluding the fire district, compared to $351,782
in 1983. The amount to be raised through taxes is
$184,384 in 1984 and was $183,953 in 1983.
