are hard workers, and
have earned some fun
I'm writing in response to the
letter by Calvin Rothermich (Dec.
7) stating that the Enfield Fire
Company was basically a social club
to drink beer and play cards. Before
my husband joined the fire com-
pany, I felt very much the same
way.
Now I know what these people do
at the fire station and I'm very
proud to say I'm the wife of an
Enfield fireman. These dedicated
men and women give up their ow-
no
and risk their lives to he]
protect the lives and property i
other people. This certainly is not
very fun social event.
Enfield has a great response tirr
and the rescue team is fantastic.
don't think the reason for this
because the firemen have bee
drinking beer and playing card'.
They put in many hours of their ow
time to train to be as good as the
are.
The Enfield residents are m
paying them a penny to do this. The
do it because they care about othe
people's lives and propertl
Shouldn't the Enfield residents t
thankful that there are so man
people interested in their welfare.,
The money the firemen hav
asked for is not to support any soca
events. It is to maintain the big
quality of protection that they ar
providing to each and every residet
of Enfield. The firemen shouldn
have all the responsibility for rai:
ing this money. Fire protection i
for everyone in Enfield, not just fc
firemen.
It's about time the rest of tb
people in Enfield support the fix
company; not just by paying taxe
but by coming out to fund-raiser
seeing what the firemen actually t
and letting them know they al
appreciated.
If anyone still feels the fire cor
pany is a social club I'll gladly call
you through the middle of the night
when the firemen are up putting out
fires or pulling bodies out of
wrecked cars. Then you can see for
yourself how much fun the firemen
have.
The Enfield firemen deserve
everyone's support and pride. So
what, if they do drink beer or play
cards? Just because they are
firemen doesn't mean they aren't
allowed to have some fun. They have
definitely earned it. I know I would
rather have dust in my house than no
house at all.
