Pine City Fire Department had the honor of hosting the 75th Annual Convention in 1968.
Lambert G. Anderson of Herkimer was elected President, the first time a man from this county had
been elected to this high office. Arthur Brown became 1st Vice -President and Jerry Harrington from
Odessa, 2nd Vice -President.
The winners of the First Aid contest held on Thursday night was the Greene Fire Department;
Chemung Fire Department won the Frank Morgan Trophy for being the newest team with the most
points. The Gilbertsville Hose team was the overall point Trophy winner in the hose races with 14
points by placing 1st in the Wye, 1st in the ladder contest and 2nd in the motor hose. The Paul
O'Connor Trophy for Sportsmanship was awarded to Vestal. The results of the parade were as
follows: Best Appearing Department, Owego; Best Ladies Auxiliary, McLean; Best School Band,
Norwich; and Best Drum & Bugle Corps, the Grenadier of Apalachin.
During the Annual State of New York Firemen's Convention, Fowler Finch became Jr.
Past -President while Larry Dwyer was elected President. The Delaware County Firemen's Association
and the Central New York Firemen's Association held a testimonial dinner at the Kass Inn in
Margaretsville on October 15, 1968 in honor of Past -President Finch.
The association was saddened by the death of some of our past Presidents and life members
since the last Convention. Past President H. Archie Spencer (194546) November 7, 1968; Life
member Judge Francis Clohessy, December 29, 1968, and life member Joseph Scanlon on December
19, 1968.
The 76th Convention was held in Cortland with George Lang as Local Chairman. The slate of
officers remained the same with Lambert G. Anderson, President. Fowler Finch and Larry Dwyer
were made life members at the annual meeting.
The Montour Falls hose team won their second leg on the Chief Louis McGuigan overall Point
Trophy with 1st places in the Ladder and Motor Hose events and 2nd place in the Wye contest.
Montour Falls broke their own record in the ladder with a time of 12.8 seconds while the Homer
team set a new record in the Wye with a time of 22.7 seconds. Winner of the Paul O'Connor
Sportsmanship Trophy was'Breeseport.
The Greene Emergency Squad won the Maurice "Mike" Weeks Memorial Trophy for the third
time with a total score of 260 points. The Garrettsville Squad won the Frank Morgan Trophy.
Winners in the parade were: Best Fire Department, Geneva; Best Auxiliary, McLean; Best School
Band, Sherburne and Best Drum Corps "The Satons of Seneca Falls.
The annual "Old Timers" Banquet was held in Whitesboro on May 16, 1970. Top officers
elected at the 1970 Convention held in Owego were Arthur Brown, President; Jerry Harrington, 1st
