Candidate for the office of Second Vice -President of the Firemen's Association of the State of New York at the State Convention in 1962. Past President Frank Morgan donated a Trophy to be awarded to the newest first aid team with the most points in the contest. The annual "Old Timers" banquet was held at the Horseheads Fire Station in May. It was at this banquet that the committee decided that their annual event would be held in May from this date on, a policy which has been followed since. A Past -President and Life Member, Leon H. Ingerrall died March 13, 1961. He served as President in 1937-38 and as Secretary from 1940 to 1943. Mr. Ingersall was also a Past -President of F.A.S.N.Y. The First Aid contests at Endicott was won by the Greene Emergency Squad with a total of 285 points, followed by Sidney with 283. The Frank Morgan Trophy for the newest team was awarded to Bainbridge. McGraw was the overall Point Trophy winner in the hose races with 4 points. The annual parade was held in a steady downpour but despite the rain, many units marched with Montour Falls being judged Best Appearing Fire Department; McLean, Best Auxiliary; Greene, Best School Band; and Owego as Best Drum Corps. Gov. Nelson Rockefeller was awarded a Honorary Member of the association during the Convention meeting. Watkins Glen was the host for the 69th Annual Convention in 1962. Berm O. Steinberg became President, with Lawrence Decker 1st Vice -President and Paul E. O'Connor of Waterloo, 2nd Vice -President. Past President Keith L. Whiting was voted a life membership as was William Champ, \ who has served as Director of Chenango County for a number of years and is a Past -Chief of the Sherburne Fire Department. The "Old Timers" of the association presented 4 Trophies to be awarded to the hose contest winners—One for First place in each event and an overall Point Trophy to be kept by the department winning it. Since this Convention, they have donated these trophies each year. Winners of the all -Point Trophy in the hose races was Oxford with 5 points. Greene was awarded First place in the First Aid contest and retired the Eugene Doster overall point Trophy. Penn Yann was awarded the Best Appearing Department in the parade; Lansing the Best Auxiliary; Sherburne the Best School Band; and the Seneca Chiefs of Montour Falls the Best Drum & Bugle Corps. Fowler Finch was elected 2nd Vice -President of the F.A.S.N.Y. at the State. Convention in August. In April 1961, Past President Howard Bartlett resigned as Chief of the Oxford Fire Department after 39 years due to ill health. Members of his department voted to instate Mr. Bartlett as Honorary Chief for life. First Vice -President Lawrence Decker conducted the meeting at the 70th Annual Convention in Norwich, due to the illness of President Steinberg. A special tribute was paid to Harold Nichols, Past -President (1943-1944) and a life member of the association who was also serving as Associate Chaplain. - Historian .............. FREDERICK D.
