Two weeks ago, a member of our staff contacted your municipal office gathering information
about local celebrations. This letter follows up on that conversation and requests more
information about events and dates of historical significance in your community.
The Tompkins County Board of Representatives is considering funding for various County
"celebrations" either as part of their tourism program or as part of the general budget. At this
stage, celebrations are defined and categorized by these three common types of events:
a. Social/Not-for-profit celebrations (Church fairs, festivals)
b. Municipal or Public Sponsor (Fireman's Days, Memorial Day)
C. Historic Importance ( Centennial Celebrations, Historic Events)
As soon as possible, would you please send me a copy of your community's Certificate of
Incorporation and listing of significant historical events with their corresponding dates.
If you have any questions about this request and its origin, please do not hesitate to contact me.
