Mr. Karl Heck
Tompkins County Board of Representatives
Department of Planning
121 East Court Street
Ithaca,New York 14850
To the Board and Department of Planning;
The Enfield Volunteer Fire Company was founded and officially incorporated on January 22nd
1948 and thus celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. To commemorate 50 years of service to the Town
of Enfield and the surrounding communities the members are preparing to honor Charter members,Life
members, and all who have helped the department evolve into what it is today.
Our department, like any non-profit volunteer organization is always looking for funding to help
defray the costs incurred for endeavors we undertake And the events we have planned, to celebrate this
50th anniversary, are ambitious and varied. We expect out of pocket expenses to be $6,000 or more.
Recently Bud Covert of Enfield won a $50 dollar prize for his winning design in a logo contest, This logo is
to be reproduced and will appear on our fire apparatus and uniforms. The department is also producing a
chronological time line commemorative book depicting our 50 years of service to present to each member
and make available to the public.
On Sunday May 17th the fire company will hold an open house honoring
charter and life members and dedicate a memorial garden to the
memory of all those who have served the community
On June 24,25,26,27th the fire company will host its recently revived carnival
with a special 50th anniversary fireworks on Friday June 26th and
an anniversary parade on Saturday June 27th
On Saturday August 22nd the fire company will host a family picnic honoring
all members past and present for their contributions to the department
On Saturday December 12th there will be a Finale celebration at our annual
banquet and installation of officers.
Being in receipt of a letter from Karl Heck to previous Town of Enfield Supervisor Wm. Mather
regarding availability of county help for funding of celebrations of historic local celebrations we believe the
Enfield Volunteer Fire Company meets the criteria and would be grateful for any financial assistance the
Department of Planning could provide through its" celebrations" funding program. A copy of our
Certificate Of Incorporation is included.
