HomeMy WebLinkAboutcarnival and parade evfc 2_0001For those not fam9illure with duck racing let us explaine how it works ----unlike
horse racing where the thouroughbreeds start in a large metal starting gate. The start
in DUCK RACING is done by forming a large RAFT -OF-DUCKS in the paddock area
sometimes refered to as the BATHTUB..At the gun they burst from the TUB down the
SWAMP HOUSE STRIGHT-A-WAY-CHUTE and THEYERRRRR OFFF!!!!!!!!Sort of a
LE -MANS start......
Each duck is on his -or -her own after that ... athe the wimm of wind -and -wave so
to speak ... and ther is no gender preference in duck racing either ... the Females(called
SUSSIES10 and the Males(called DRAKES10 race as equals and the first duck to
cross the finish line and enter the winner chute wins its owner $1000,second place
earns $500,third $250,forth $100,fifth $50, and #'s 6 thru 50 earn $10 a piece...
Unlike horse racing , bumping & physical contact between ducks is allowed,
however,no human contact is allowed -except if a duck is DRY -DOCKED -,that is ,if a
duck were to get stuck on a log or rock for an extended period of time and is lapped by
all the other ducks from which it cannot free itself a track steward,AND ONLY A TRACK
STEWARD- can free the duck placing it back in the water and it may continue the race.
But a HUNG DUCK CANNOT TAKE FIRST PLACE!!!!! Ownwers and trainers however
cannot touch their duck or in any way creat wave or wake that would help their duck or
impeed another duck once the flock leaves the bathtub........
One of the hottest new entries this year is WILD ONE # 604 Wild one is a puddle
bred duck owned by Heather Saulsgiver of Earville NY ... Puddel ducks have been
known to do well here at Enfield Downs and Heather Saulsgiver decided at the last
minute to enter her duck as she was passing through from her home in Earlville on her
way to Kayuka College where she enters as a freshman this fall... She will be running
WILD' on Kayuka Lake for the next 4 years......
