- Depending on the type of fire, trucks will leave the station in
• accordance with procedures set up by the Chief.
- The driver of a fire apparatus enroute to a fire is required by law
to have warning lights and siren in operation while in motion.
- While enroute to a call or anytime you are driving the apparatus
"Think before you act" this is very expensive equipment ; It's in
your hands and you are totally responsible for it.
- At a fire scene drivers must stay with their truck at all times.
- After a truck is out for a training or road check the driver is
responsible for checking truck out in general; Gas, oil, radiator,
etc.. Driver is also responsible for logging mileage in log book.
- After a truck is out for a fire or rescue call, driver must fill out
fire call checklist card for that truck and log mileage in log book.
- Make sure trucks are in forward gear and that master switches are off.
- All trucks will be washed after being out.
- Beer whether open or closed is not allowed in the cab of any fire
apparatus.
8.) - If a member has a blue light mounted on their vehicle they must have
a blue light authorization card kept in the vehicle. Cards may be
obtained from the Chief.
- All the following rules are from the New York State Vehicle Traffic
Law and must be obeyed by all members.
- Only one blue light may be mounted on any vehicle.
- A blue light visible 180 degrees may be mounted anywhere on the front
of the vehicle.
- A blue light visible 360 degrees must be mounted above the headlights
and if it might obstruct the view of the driver it must be shielded
so that it does not.
- Blue lights are for identification only, they do not give you the
right to speed or disobey traffic laws. You must still obey all
speed limits and traffic laws.
- It is also against the law for anyone including members to pass a
fire apparatus while enroute to a fire or Rescue call. Even if the
apparatus is moving slow, you are still not permitted to pass. The
only exceptions are Chief officers with red lights and siren.
- Once you reach the scene make sure you park your vehicle where it
will not interfere with operations.
