Mary (Budd) Wood was born September 8, 1820 to John and Christina (Shafer) Budd in part of the Town
of Ulysses that became Town of Enfield a few months later in 1821.
In 1850 she married Daniel R. Wood (1818-1885)* a farmer in Enfield who lived on the south side of
Gray Road in the north half of Section 77. It was here Mary died at the young age of 32 years on
September 1, 1853.
Mary is buried in Enfield Falls Cemetery (aka Budd Cemetery) with other members of the Wood and
Budd families a few days shy of her 33rd birthday.
Inscription: “MARY Wife of Daniel R. Wood DIED SEPT 1, 1853 AE 32 YRS, 11Ms, & 24 Ds”
Daniel remarried to Sarah M. and moved to Cattaraugus County, New York between 1870 and 1875
where he died and is buried. Some of the children he and Sarah had are buried in Budd Cemetery.
* Daniel was the son of Abraham and Phebe Wood. Abraham was a veteran of the War of 1812 and
received 160 acres in Tompkins County for his service.
