Audit Meeting Minutes
Enfield Town Hall
Wednesday, January 19, 2011
5:00 p.m.
The Town of Enfield Annual Audit Meeting was held Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at the
Enfield Town Hall, 168 Enfield Main Road, Ithaca, New York at 5:00 p.m. with Supervisor Roy
Barriere presiding.
Present: Town Supervisor Roy Barriere, Town Councilperson Chris Hern, Town
Councilperson Jean Owens, Town Councilperson Debbie Teeter, Town Justice Betty Poole, Town
Justice James Varricchio, Town Bookkeeper Pat Podufalski and Town Clerk Alice Linton. Absent:
Town Councilperson Ron Clark.
Town Justice James Varricchio’s books were presented for audit. Judge Varricchio
explained he is working to get his checking accounts squared away as he was responsible for a
check written out of the bail account instead of the regular justice account. Supervisor Barriere
explained the check was returned from the bank in January – the check had been written in
December. Town Justice Betty Poole’s books were presented for audit. Councilperson Owens
asked why Justice Poole’s figures were so much higher than Justice Varricchio’s. Justice Poole
explained it is partially due to the number of cases and partially to the kinds of cases.
Councilperson Owens asked if state surcharges have increased over the last year. Justice
Poole responded they have increased twice. Councilperson Teeter asked what the follow-up is for
defendants who don’t show up in court when they are issued a ticket for an unlicensed dog. Justice
Poole suggested Supervisor Barriere might want to speak to the new sheriff about this.
Councilperson Teeter suggested that our judges could issue warrants so they could at least be
entered in the system and deputies could make a good faith effort to serve them.
Town Bookkeeper Podufalski’s books were presented for audit and were audited by the
board members present.
Town Clerk Alice Linton’s books were presented for audit and were audited by the board
members present.
The special audit meeting adjourned at 6:00 p.m.
