SUBJECT - OLD FIRE HOUSE
PRESENT: Town Board Members: Larry Lanning, Onale Mente, Andrew Kraft,
Robert Linton, Etta Gray. Other Town Officials: Jean Scofield,
M. Clyde Hubbell, Shirley Egan.
The Special Town Board Meeting was called to order at 8:00 pm.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
The Enfield Volunteer ;Fire 'Department has received a purchase offer from
an individual to purchase the old fire hall. The individual was told by
the Fire Company they would have an answer by September 1, 1988. The Fire
Department would like a firm commitment from the Town Board.
Councilman Linton made a motion that the Enfield. Town Board, pursuant to
their authority under section 1.402(E)(I) of the Not for Profit Corp. Law
hereby directs that from this date forward the Enfield Fire Department
will make no disposition of the Old Fire House property without the
approval of the Enfield Town Board. Supervisor Gray seconded the motion.
Shirley Egan spoke that if the town took over as owner - leasee that the
Day Care Group would not be able to use the building because it is not up
to the NYS Building Code. Day Care could still stay there if the fire
department stayed as owner-occupant of the building.
ki rley Egan states that legally the Town Board could not enforce the above
motion.
Councilman Linton withdrew his motion, Supervisor Gray withdrew her second.
Councilman Lanning made a motion that the town have the town attorney
contact the fire department attorney to draw up the lease for the Old
Fire Departtent. Councilman Mente seconded the motion.
Roll Call: Councilman Kraft - No, Councilman Linton - No, Councilman
Tanning - No, Councilman Mente - No, Supervisor Gray - No
Motion defeated.
Supervisor Gray made a motion that the town is interested in the Old Fire
House building and directs the town attorney to find options for securing
its interest in the building while it studies it further. The town attorney
is to report at the September 7, 1988 board meeting. Councilman Kraft
seconded the motion. '
Roll Call: Councilman Kraft - yes, Councilman Linton - yes, Councilman
Lanning - no, Councilman Mente - yes, Supervisor Gray - yes.
Motion carried.
Councilman Linton made a motion that a letter be sent to the fire company
requested a progress report and financial information on the new fire hall
to date. Councilman Kraft seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Councilman Linton made a motion to adjourn the special meeting. Councilman
Kraft seconded the motion. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 9:45 pm.
