PRESENT: Poney Carpenter, Marnie Kirchgessner, Rhoda Linton, Beth McGee
ABSENT: Lori Elrod, Vera Howe-Strait, Judy Hyman, Becky Sims Mary Jo Lovelace, Nancy
Spero, Dan Walker
Beth McGee called the meeting to order at 7:06 p.m. Note: there was no electricity due to a “storm”.
Next meeting August 20, 2014.
Beth McGee was in contact with Nancy Dolge, Newfield Town Planning Board. If anyone from the
committee has questions regarding the CP from Newfield she will forward them to Nancy.
It was determined that Poney Carpenter will create a Google Drive group for our committee. It will
allow us to all log in and see and upload documents that we put together for the group, minutes, note
taking, individual notes, etc. Each member of this group will have full access and be able to add to
any document, and anyone in the public who would like to see what we’re up to will be given “read
only” access so they can read all the documents and watch our process as we go along if they like.
Discussion on Land Use in Enfield:
Everyone was asked to send their lists to Poney Carpenter to place on the Goggle Drive Group
to share. Sue Thompson will send list of tax assessment categories for the town to the
committee.
Trending resource land use. Some of the suggestions were: Solar Farm, vineyard, Indoor
agriculture-hydroponics, more recreational areas, different ways to p ower energy, central
community – agriculture, kids and agricultural, backyard gardeners – education – healthy living
aspects, health services – clinics, traveling library.
Land uses the public has deemed less desirable: Fracking/gas drilling, heavy industry, waste
products, Animal Feeding Operations (AFO) and Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations
(CAFO), dumps/landfill, large housing developments.
Collecting stories on land use – advertising location of meetings: community newsletter, town
website, Grange, Community Fairs. Marnie Kirchgessner sent to the committee, a list of
community members to speak with regarding “stories”. Beth McGee suggested interviewing:
Dave Bock, Phil White, Jim McConkey, Mary Jo Lovelace, Stevenson family, Russ and Bob
Carpenter.
Rhoda Linton discussed building understanding of multi-generational farming, traditional
farmers and smaller farmers. Farmers could share agriculture through the years.
Meeting adjourned at 8:4o p.m.
